Lady Wolverines take 3A District championship

The Weiser High School track teams competed at the 3A District Championships in Homedale on May 9 and 10. Weiser mens’ team came in third place and the Weiser women’s team finished as District Champions. 
 In the men’s division, Weiser scored 97. Fruitland came in second place with a score of 97.5. Mc-Call-Donnelly finished as district champions with a score of 178.5. 
 The district championship is also the state qualifying meet. The top four in each event automatically qualify for the state championship. Additional athletes may qualify based on their times/scores after the scores are compared with the other districts. Coach Dave Shirts shared that he was very proud of all the Weiser athletes. 
 “Our kids really showed up to compete. A lot of personal records were set, with much extraordinary effort by many. I loved the way our kids supported each other. Our coaching staff is very proud of our athletes,” Shirts said. 
 Weiser had several athletes place near the top for several events and qualify for the state championships. Starting with the sprint distances: In the 100m, Toren Walker placed fourth with a time of 11.50. Jayden Walker placed second with a score of 11.40. In the 200m, Jayden Walker finished second with a time of 22.86. Jackson Laird finished fourth with a time of 23.39. In the 110m hurdles, Zayn Crossley placed fourth with a time of 17.23. Toren Walker placed second in the 400 with a time of 49.98
 For the long distance races, Blake Quinton finished sixth in the 3200 with a time of 10:28.11. 
 Weiser’s relay teams all competed well. The 4x100m team: Brock Spencer, Jackson Laird, Jayden Walker, and Toren Walker, placed first with a school record breaking time of 42:99. The 4x200 team: Brock Spencer, Jackson Laird, Garrett Walker, and Xander Gray finished third with a time of 1:31.94. The 4x400 team: Jayden Walker, Jackson Laird, Garrett Walker, and Toren Walker finished second and broke the school record with a time of 3:25.64. 
 Several athletes also did well in field events. In shot put, Karsten Walker placed sixth with a throw of 45’6”. In the discus, Brock Spencer placed second with a distance of 141’8”. In high jump, Xander Gray placed second with a height of 5’10”. Gray also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 21’0.5”. Josh Mizar placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 39’9”. 
 In the womens’ competition, Weiser finished with a score of 149.5. McCall- Donnelly placed second with a score of 121.5. Homedale finished third with a score of 97.5. 
 In the sprint distances: Madi Wilkins placed fourth in the 100m with a time of 13.17. In the 200m, Kailee Lerew placed second with a time of 26.27. 
 In the mid-distance races, Kailee Lerew placed first in the 400m with a new school record time of 58.25. Kamryn Doty placed third with a time of 1:02.54. Madi Jones placed fourth with a time of 1:04.15. In the 800m, Claire Matthews placed second with a time of 2:24.23
 In the distance races, Claire Matthews also placed first in the 1600 with a time of 5:33.37, and Matthews placed first in the 3200 with a time of 11:58.25. Kendall Rynearson placed third with a time of 12:23.21. Corrianna Parsons also qualified for state in the 3200 with a time of 12:45.43. 
 Weiser’s relay teams performed well overall with all teams qualifying for state. The 4x100m relay team: Madi Wilkins, Bethany Walker, Abi Wilkins, and Kailee Lerew placed second with a time of 50.26. The 4x200 team: Madi Wilkins, Madi Jones, Bethany Walker and Abi Wilkins placed first with a time of 1:48.75. The 4x400 team, Kamryn Doty, Kendall Rynearson, Evie Dolton and Claire Matthews finished first with a time of 4:14.72. The SMR team: Madi Wilkins, Bethany Walker, Abi Wilkins and Kailee Lerew also broke the school record and finished first with a time of 1:51.17. 
 Weiser also had athletes perform well in the field events. In shot put, Emma Kapriellian placed second with a distance of 32’5.5”. Tegan Hawker placed fourth with a distance of 31’2.5”. In the discus, Hailey Eames placed fourth with a throw of 93’8”. In high jump, Kamryn Doty placed second with a jump of 4’10”. In the pole vault, Corianna Parsons placed fourth with a height of 8’0”. In the triple jump, Bethany Walker placed second with a distance of 34’3.5”. 
 The state qualifying athletes will compete in Middleton on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18 at the Middleton High School track.
