Lady Wolverines dominate Parma in 4-0 victory

 Four goals were spread across four of Weiser High School’s Lady Wolverines varsity soccer players in Tuesday’s, Sept. 17, 4-0 win over the visiting 3A Parma Panthers.

 Tuesday’s game was a conference match with Parma.

 Weiser took control of the match early, playing a strong offense and recording seven shots on goal in the first half. 

 Sophomore Reilly McCalmont received a pass chipped to her by Isabella Froshiesar as she moved near the right side of the goal box, netting the ball under the reach of Parma goalie Maya Jensen.

 Later in the half, Froshiesar was moving up the middle when freshman Sophie Shirts made a fast pass over a mass of players where McCalmont was on the other side. Somewhere in the mix, Froshiesar got her foot on the ball, with her describing the goal as it “barely rolling in” the net for Weiser’s second goal, with the half ending in Weiser’s favor 2-0.

 The Panthers worked hard trying to defend and turn the ball, while the Wolverines continued to attack and control the game all through the second half, making 12 goal attempts over the 40 minutes, adding two more to the score.

 Junior Danna Zarate took the ball in close, shooting it to the back left corner of the net for the third goal.

 Nearing the end of the half, Shirts took a shot from the right side, booting the ball past the keeper for goal number four.

 Coach Trine Loenberg commended the team for picking up the pace in the second half.

 Senior Alia Oarbeascoa has been recovering from a concussion over the past couple of weeks.

 “It feels like my brain has reset,” Oarbeascoa told the Signal American. “I am doing light practices tomorrow and Thursday, and Friday I’ll be able to fully practice. I’ll be able to play McCall on Tuesday.

 “In the beginning of today’s game we didn’t play as well as I know we can,” she added. “Our speed is better than theirs, and we finished as a team.”

 “They’re going to continue practicing hard and play McCall next week,” Loenberg said.
