Lady Wolverines command the court

Weiser vs. Vale
The Lady Wolverines have been on a winning streak for their first three games of the season, and blowouts of their opponents, outscoring Nampa Christian, Emmett, and Vale by a cumulative 135-points. With their 3-0 record and confidence on their side, they headed across the bridge into Oregon to play the Vale Vikings.
The Lady Wolverines did it again and added another W to their record with a 40-27 win. Mattie Shirts had a double-double in the game with 19-points and 11 rebounds, followed by Macy Maloney with 9-points.  Kailee Lerew recorded 6-points on the stat sheet, and Brady Reed and Ellie Shirts put up 3-points apiece.
Weiser vs. Skyview
The Lady Wolverines hit the road again to face the 5A Skyview Hawks, and once again the Lady Wolverines dominated the hardwood with a 46-32 win.
The first period was a close contest with the Lady Wolverines only leading by 2-points (10-8) after 8-minutes, led by Kailee Lerew with 6-points, followed by Jasi Yraguen and Ellie Shirts with 2-points apiece.
The Lady Wolverines picked up the pace in the second period, expanding their lead to 25-18 by the halftime break.  Mattie Shirts was strong in the paint with 6-points and Brady Reed had a successful time outside with a basket and a 3-pointer.  Ellie Shirts rounded out the scoring with a 2-point bucket.
The Lady Wolverines never let up on the gas following halftime and continued to outscore the Hawks in the second half. Holding the Hawks to two baskets and a pair of free throws in the third quarter, the Lady Wolverines added another 10-points to their side of the scoreboard with the shooting of Macy Maloney with 4-points and 2-points apiece from both Kendall Rynearson and Mattie Shirts.
Leading 35-24, the Lady Wolverines finished off the final 8-minute period with eleven more points to the Hawks’ 8-points. Ending the contest with another Wolverine win 46-32.
Mattie Shirts led the Lady Wolverines with 13-points and 6 rebounds, followed by Kailee Lerew with 8-points and 2 rebounds.  Ellie Shirts added 7-points and 4 rebounds, while Kendall Rynearson had 6-points and 2 rebounds.  Brady Reed and Macy Maloney added five and four points, respectively, while Jasi Yraguen had 2-points and Hannah Samson had 1-point.
Weiser vs. Nampa Christian
The Lady Wolverines headed in to only their second home court pairing with a 5-0 record and hoped to add to their winning streak in the second game of the season against the visiting Nampa Christian Trojans.
The first quarter was all Wolverines on both ends of the court with the Weiser ladies scoring 16-points and holding the Trojans to a single basket. Their 16-2 lead was expanded greatly in the second period with a dominating 18-9 scoring deficit.  By the conclusion of the first half, the Lady Wolverines led the Trojans 34-11, aided by 15-points from senior, Mattie Shirts.  Brady Reed and Jasi Yraguen combined for 13-points, scoring eight and five points, respectively.  Macy Maloney, Ellie Shirts, and Tobie Noyer all added 2-points each to the Wolverine lead.
The third period was another commanding quarter for the Wolverines, limiting the Trojans to only two free throws and no scoring from the field.  Meanwhile, six of the nine Lady Wolverine players made it on the scoreboard with a cumulative 20-points.
Mattie Shirts led the charge with 6-points, followed close behind by Tobie Noyer with 5-points.  Kailee Lerew and Quinci Marvin had 3-points apiece, while Macy Maloney and Hannah Samson added 2-points and 1-point, respectively.
With an insurmountable 55-13 lead, the Lady Wolverines eased up a bit in the final period, only scoring two baskets from the field and three from the free throw line, while the Trojans experienced similar results with two baskets and two free throws.  The game ended with the Lady Wolverines in the lead 61-19.
The Lady Wolverines had 89 percent of their team score against the Lady Trojans and the charge was led by Mattie Shirts with 23-points and 6 rebounds.  Kailee Lerew was also in double digits with 11-points and 3 rebounds.  Tobie Noyer and Macy Maloney had 7 and 6 points, respectively, and Ellie Shirts and Quinci Marvin added 3-points apiece.  Brady Reed added 2-points and Hannah Samson had 1-point.
Weiser vs. Parma
The Lady Wolverines have had impressive results in their first five games, demonstrating their skills both offensively and defensively, and showing that their bench is deep with talent and versatility. The Lady Wolverines have outscored their opponents 320-117 (203-points) in the early 2022-2023 season and hoped to extend their 5-0 winning streak into the Snake River Valley (SRV) Conference play that commenced with a road game at the home of the Parma Panthers.
The first quarter was uncharacteristically bumpy for the Lady Wolverines, shooting only 2 for 10 during the period for a total of 6-points, while the Panthers tallied 13-points with their ball stealing and offensive presence.
The Lady Wolverines continued to fight into the second quarter, but the Panther defense and ball handling errors by the Wolverines limited the scoring to a 3-point bucket by Kailee Lerew, 2-points apiece for Jasi Yraguen and Brady Reed and a trio of free throws by Mattie Shirts. Unfortunately, the 10-points that the Wolverines put on the board was of no assistance to fix the scoring gap, as the Panthers scored 14-points.
The halftime chat with Weiser Head Coach Laraine Harrison must have been inspiring or at least motivating because trailing 16-27 to begin the third period, the Lady Wolverines began to gradually chip away at the daunting 11-point deficit, outscoring the Panthers 17-14.
Brady Reed came up big from behind the arc with two 3-pointers, while Macy Maloney had similar success with a 3-point basket and a 2-point basket.  Ellie Shirts, Mattie Shirts and Kendall Rynearson all added 2-points apiece.
Trailing 33-41, the Lady Wolverines continued their comeback, limiting the Panthers to only one shot from the field and four free throws, but despite outscoring the Panthers 10-6, the Lady Wolverines simply ran out of time and recorded their first loss of the season 43-47. All 10-points by the Lady Wolverines came from Mattie Shirts with 4-points in the paint and 100 percent from the charity stripe with 6-points.
Mattie Shirts led the Lady Wolverines with 19-points and 8 rebounds, followed by Brady Reed with 8-points and 5 rebounds. Macy Maloney and Ellie Shirts added 5-points and 4-points, respectively, while Kailee Lerew tallied 3-points. Jasi Yraguen and Kendall Rynearson rounded out the scoring with 2-points apiece.
