Just like the Willie Nelson song, the Lady Wolverines were on the road again Tuesday, Jan. 10, traveling to Homedale for a conference match up.
This was an extremely fast paced game with both teams doing well in the first quarter. Weiser, however, was more poised and began to pull away in the second quarter eventually winning 55-36.
The freshman squad led from start to finish, notching a 38-25 win in another close contest. The JV game was fraught with fouls and jump balls. Unfortunately, the JV lost 53-36.
Starters for the varsity were Tobie Noyer, Mattie Shirts, Macy Maloney, Brady Reed and Kailee Lerew. Homedale won the tip and scored immediately. M. Shirts put back an offensive rebound for the first score for Weiser. The teams traded scores throughout most of this quarter.
With 12 seconds to go on the clock, Ellie Shirts stole the ball and finished with a layup to give the Wolverines an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Homedale briefly took back the lead in the second, but just a bit over hallway through, Weiser began to pull away, starting with a big three-point bomb by Lerew.
Employing a smothering pressure defense, Weiser lengthened the gap to take a 27-19 lead in at halftime.
The third quarter showed just what teamwork looks like with plenty of assists being handed out as Weiser continued to score at will.
Noyer had an incredible defensive swat on a potential layup that brought a roar from the Weiser fans. Weiser closed out the third quarter leading 49-25.
Neither team scored much in the fourth quarter but by then, it didn’t matter to the Wolverine faithful.
Weiser would add another notch to their victory belt with a 55-36 final score.
 M. Shirts led scoring with 20 points, followed by Reed, 12; Lerew and Maloney, 5 each; E. Shirts, 4; Kendall Rynearson, 3; and Noyer, Jasi Yraguen, and Quinci Marvin, 2 each.
