 Born in Nampa, Idaho to Ellis Esley Eshelman and Genevieve Ellaline Lembke. He grew up on a farm outside Kuna, Idaho and graduated from Kuna High School in 1958.
 He was in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, stationed in Germany. 
 He met the love of his life, Myrna Lou Bowers, of Weiser, Idaho, on May 15, 1963.
 They were married Nov. 15, 1963 at Weiser Church of the Nazarene. 
 To this union were born Anette Kay Eshelman and Gregg Alan Eshelman. 
 They lived in Nampa, Idaho, where Gene worked for Shields Seed Co. He ran the dairy farm for his mother after his father passed away. He worked with his father-in-law as a painting contractor until the 1980s. 
 Together, Gene and Myrna owned and operated a ceramics business for 14 years in Meridian, Idaho. They moved to Weiser in 1992.
 He was a long time member of the Hudson, Essex, Terra Plane Club, the Nash Car Club of America, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
 He is survived by his wife Myrna, daughter Anette, son Gregg, brothers Carl (Twila), Emory (Barbara), sister Elsie (Ralph Groom), numerous nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles.
 Memorial services will be held at the Weiser Senior and Community Center on Friday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
