Free Fit and Fall Proof classes begin again in Weiser!
Oct. 10 marked the beginning of free Fit and Fall Proof classes at the Vendome in Weiser. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Vendome located at 309 State Street.
Fit and Fall Proof was developed by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and is overseen by Southwest District Health locally. The goal of the program is to engage older adults in an exercise-based solution for balance, strength, and flexibility needs. Classes involve many different movements with options for modified or seated versions of each exercise. Instructors are certified volunteers who have received training and instruction on exercise techniques and personal safety.
Prior to the COVID shutdowns, Weiser had a vibrant Fit and Fall Proof class with upwards of 40 participants on a given day. Volunteers and participants are excited to get classes going again.
Fit and Fall Proof Master Trainer, Betty Simpson, has been integral to reviving the program in Weiser. “We are not trying to compete with other exercise options,” she stated, “we simply want to ensure all those who want to exercise or build balance and strength have options to do so.” She continued, “I’m so excited to bring this program back along with our other local Fit and Fall Proof instructors. We are a great team.”
Simpson, along with Weiser Memorial Hospital and Southwest District Health have worked hard to begin Fit and Fall Proof classes again and are optimistic about participation. All classes are free and registration is not required. All ages are welcome to attend.
