Free Fishing Day this weekend . . .

Dozens of volunteers enjoyed near-perfect weather as they descended on the Weiser Community Pond May 31 for the annual clean-up day hosted by Indianhead Fly Fishers and the City of Weiser. The event always takes place the week before Idaho Fish and Game’s Free Fishing Day, which is on Saturday, June 8 this year. On that day, anglers of all experience and ages, residents and non-residents, can fish anywhere in the state without a license. Though fishing license requirements are suspended for the day, all other rules, such as limits or tackle restrictions are still in effect. The Weiser Pond is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and was last stocked on May 23, 2024. Limit is two trout per angler. The pond is also home to bluegill/pumpkinseed/sunfish and largemouth bass, as well as some resident turtles. Photo by Philip A. Janquart
