Electrical department is looking at residents meters to check on condition

This last weekend Cathy and I met our daughter and grandsons at C. Ben Ross reservoir to try our hand at fishing. The only one to even get a nibble was the older grandson. The younger one wasn’t interested in the fishing pole we bought him, but was interested in a stick he used as a “pretend” fishing pole – dipping it in the water, splashing, and drawing in the sand.
Before we left, a gentleman who had just launched his boat offered to give the boys and their mom a short ride. I think that was the highlight of the morning for them. By 1 p.m. it was pretty well decided we would not be going home with any fish, but we had a good time anyway.
Whew! That was quite a windstorm Sunday night. March is living up to its old reputation of “In like a lamb, out like a lion.”
The street department had been fairly caught up with its early street sweeping only to have the wind rearrange things a bit.
Last week the Governor announced that as of March 29, any Idahoan with at least one medical condition will be able to access the COVID-19 vaccine. In the same announcement, he stated that as of April 5 everyone over the age of 16 would be eligible to be vaccinated without prioritization regardless of age, medical condition, or occupation.
Now would be the time to call one of our local providers: Ridley’s Pharmacy, Bi-Mart Pharmacy, or Family Medical Center to schedule an appointment to get your vaccine. Remember, this service is provided at no cost to you.
The vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective. Please take advantage of this opportunity to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us by getting your vaccine.
Around the city this week, the water department is doing random fire hydrant flow tests in town to ensure adequate water capacity in the event of a fire.
The recreation department is needing life guards for the swimming pool this summer. Amy Wootton will be back again this year at the end of May to train anyone interested in being a life guard. At this time, it appears there will be openings for at least four or five guards for the season. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Ken Anderson at the recreation department for more information at 208-414-1965.
Also, the recreation department is gearing up for a busy soccer season. Since nearly all sports activities were put on hold last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, there understandably seems to be a lot of pent-up demand for getting out and being active. For those who may be concerned about too many congregating at any one point, the events are outdoors, the fields are well spaced, and it is anticipated that groups will remain under the limit of 50 people required by the Governor’s Stage 3 orders.
The electrical department is continuing to do an inventory of the electrical meters in town. The city is getting a number of calls about strange people in construction vests in back yards. If you see someone fitting this description in your neighborhood or yard, please do not hesitate to ask what they are doing. But, please be aware that the city is making this inventory in order to upgrade the meters for accuracy.
Well, that’s it for this week. I hope you are taking advantage of the warmer weather, getting out, and enjoying yourself! Have a good week!
