Dominguez family sells Hometown Motors after decades

WEISER, Idaho - Steve and Marisa Dominguez, owners of Steve’s Hometown Dealership, sold its store in Weiser to Smith Auto Group, owned by Cannon Smith and headquartered in Idaho Falls.
The Dominguezes will retain their stores in Fruitland and Ontario, said owner Steve Dominguez. Dominguez would like to say he’s very proud of the relationships built over the 34 years in Weiser and hopes they will continue for many years to come.
The sale was completed Dec. 7 and the new owners took possession on that date. Dominguez purchased the store in May of 1990 with two partners and Dominguez became the sole owner in December of 1996.
“This was one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Dominguez says, “But I’m 62 now, and I want to spend more time with my family and take some of my workload off my shoulders. We will still be very involved in the Weiser community with our two other stores. We are in no way walking away from the community – I’m so grateful for what the community has given to my family during the past 34 years.”
Dominguez said he was pleased the dealership would remain in the hands of an Idaho business, and that new ownership will be residing in Weiser.
“I accepted the offer from the Smith Group because of his family’s reputation in the Idaho Falls community and his company’s treatment of their customers and employees,” he said. “I’m confident the new owners will be as engaged with the Weiser community as we are.
“His philosophy about family and community mirrors ours. Again, we would like to thank all of our Weiser employees and customers for a wonderful 34 years as your Ford and Chrysler dealer in Weiser.  This decision is bittersweet, but we feel it’s time to make this change in our lives.”
Dominquez has been a highly active charitable figure in the communities he has served over the years.
