Bringing home the goods


Weiser High School’s tennis team wrapped up the 2023 season in good style, with the Lady Wolverines 3.828 average gpa earning the 2023 3A Academic Champions trophy and Weiser’s mens’ team bringing home the third-place State trophy. Weiser High School’s womens tennis team captured the State 3A Academic Champions trophy with an average 3.828 gpa.  Qualifying an even dozen players for 3A State tournament competition, Weiser’s mens’ tennis team secured the third-place trophy Saturday afternoon with a team total of 21 points. 
 The Lady Wolverines team brought home the 3A State Academic Champions trophy, with the team’s grade point average of 3.828 beating out 12 other 3A schools from around the state, and were just out of a tournament trophy finish with 20 team points.
 The Wolverines mixed doubles team of  Fatima Travanco and Huntyr McClellan placed third overall, beating Sugar-Salem’s duo of Blaser and Sanderson 6-1, 6-3 for the individual medals.
 In womens’ doubles, Weiser’s Bailey Coleman and McKenna Manser won their way through the consolation bracket, first with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Coeur d’Alene Charter; a 6-4, 6-7 (8), 10-8 win over Sun Valley; and a 7-6, 2-6, 10-8 win over Parma’s Page and Searle, before taking a 6-3, 7-5 loss from Parma’s Mann and Sitts, for fourth place.
 The mens doubles team of Kolin Cook and Diego Delgadillo found themselves in the consolation bracket, first defeating Gooding’s Smith and Bingham in three sets, 6-7 (9), 6-2, and 10-7; Parma’s Mann and Compas in two sets, 6-0, 6-1; Orofino’s Potratz and Miller in two sets, 6-1, 6-4; and then a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Coeur d’Alene Charter’s Burkholder and Sharp for fourth place.
