Be there for your friends, in good times and bad and get out and enjoy their company

This last weekend Cathy and I made a small partial payment on a long-term obligation. It is a debt that we will never consider repaid because it is a debt that will never end. You see, back in 2009 Cathy and I got married. A group of her friends and a few others we didn’t even know at the time got together and decided they were going to take care of the decorations, the set-up, and the clean-up for our wedding. Not long after that, Cathy’s daughter was also married. The same group of friends again got together and helped with arrangements, decorations, set-up, and take-down.
Over the years we have gone through many experiences with these couples and consider them close, personal friends. We have been able to be there for each other in good times and bad, help each other with projects, and learn life lessons from each other.
This last weekend one of the couples had a wedding for their daughter. So now it was our turn to help.  Friday was spent running errands, setting up tables and chairs, decorating, food preparation, going over details for the next day, the rehearsal, and finally pizza.
Saturday we were up before dawn to get to the venue for final preparations. The day was spent acting as parking attendant, usher, door monitor, attending the reception, take-down, clean-up, pack-up, and finally relaxing and enjoying each other.
We hadn’t seen much of these friends this last year due to COVID-19; so being able to help each other out, work as a team, and catch up with each other was especially sweet.
It wasn’t a large wedding and Cathy and I have been vaccinated, so we were fairly comfortable going and being a part of the celebration.
It is great to have friends and to have debts to others that can never be repaid.
As far as city news, at the last city council meeting the preliminary plat for two new subdivisions, one on East 9th, and another smaller one on West 9th were approved. This will provide building lots for at least 11 new residences in town.
Also, as mentioned a few weeks back, if you or someone you know is interested in working as a lifeguard at the Weiser Memorial Pool this summer, please contact the Recreation Department at 208-414-1965 for more information.
Training will be available locally by Weiser’s very own Amy Wootton later on in May.
The article is a little short on city information this week because this is being written on Sunday. Normally this article is written on Monday morning after a meeting with all of the city’s department heads where each one talks about what they have going on for the week.
This week the Association of Idaho Cities held their annual Spring Training on Monday so there wasn’t the luxury of having the Monday morning information at the time of the writing. Hopefully I’m not leaving you too uninformed.
Well, that’s it for this week.  Hope you have time get out and enjoy a few of your friends.
