Concerns about county decision

Dear Editor:
 Good judgment in public office matters just as much as good intentions. That is why Kevin Jones’s public comments regarding the emergency moratorium should concern Washington County voters.
 In a public forum, Kevin Jones was asked whether he would have voted for the emergency moratorium. His answer was yes. That answer matters because emergency government action is not something to be taken lightly. It is meant for true emergencies, not situations where people simply want faster action or a preferred outcome.

Declaration of Independence 101 lecture set for May 7

Join constitutional scholar Dr. David Adler for a powerful public lecture exploring the origins, principles, and lasting impact of the Declaration of Independence.  St. Agnes Catholic Church will be serving up a delicious breakfast on Sunday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon. The breakfast will be $7 per person or $25 for a family.

Surviving Hearts 11th annual ‘An Evening at Sunnyside

 Surviving Hearts will have their 11th annual fundraiser to benefit cancer patients on April 25. Social hour will start at 4 p.m. with dinner at 5 p.m. The venue will be at Sunnyside Farm and Events located at 1526 Sunnyside Road in Weiser. There will be a live and silent auction, music by Rockin Rooster, dinner by S&A BBQ and a full bar by Sunnyside Sips. Cost is $40 per person and tickets may be purchased by calling 208-781-1778.

 The 4th annual Weiser Athletic Boosters Red and White Kick-off dinner will be held Saturday, April 18 at Sunnyside Farms, 1526 Sunnyside Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. Table sponsorships are available. Dwight Dee Hurd, 76 years old, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Weiser, Idaho.  
 He was born May 15, 1949, in Ontario, Oregon to W.D. and Edna Hurd. 
 He married his high school sweetheart, Therese Wander, on Jan. 25, 1969.
 Dwight had a quiet presence, the kind that didn’t demand attention, but earned respect and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
