Wolverines end regular season on high note

The regular season ended for football on Friday, Oct. 24 in Payette. There are all kinds of formulas and whatnot to figure out where the team stands entering the playoffs. Bottom line, Weiser needed to win by at least 31 points. No problem as they cruised to victory 50-13. Weiser will be hosting the first round on  Saturday, Nov. 1, against Teton at noon in Memorial Park.

Weiser cross country just had one of the biggest meets of their season with Districts recently taking place here in Weiser on the Oct. 21.

Weiser volleyball dominates when it counts

 The remainder of the games in District volleyball for Weiser are win or your season is over. Weiser hosted Homedale on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in this scenario. This was perhaps the best match the team has played in awhile. Unofficially, 35 kills were recorded, nine tips and seven service aces as Weiser dispatched Homedale in three sets to win the match.

Presentation questions school voucher impacts to rural schools

Residents in the Washington County area attended a panel discussion on public education and the potential impacts of HB93, a bill offering tax credits to parents of private school students. The panel included familiar faces such as former Weiser School District superintendent Wil Overgaard, and current New Plymouth School District Superintendent Wade Wilson. The bill allows families to receive up to $5,000 or $7,500 in tax credits for tuition and education expenses. 

Scouting for Food, Nov. 8

 Weiser’s Scouting community is hosting its annual Scouting for Food Drive on Saturday, Nov. 8, exemplifying the power of local community service. To be a part of the annual drive, just place non-perishable food items in a grocery bag or box outside on your front steps by 9 a.m. that morning. The collected items will be delivered to WICAP in Weiser. Please, no glass containers.

Weiser Historic Preservation Commissions to meet Nov. 5

 The Washington County and City of Weiser Historic Preservation Commissions will meet in joint session on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. in the courthouse basement meeting room. The public is welcome to attend.

Valley’s young fiddlers featured in Country Harvest Hoedown

 Add the 43rd annual Country Harvest Hoedown featuring a drove of talented young Treasure Valley Junior Jammers fiddlers to your holiday calendar, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Kuna Performing Arts Center at Kuna High School, 637 Deer Flat Road in Kuna. 
 Doors open at 1:15 p.m., with ticket prices at $13 for adults, $11 for seniors and students, and $6 for under 12.

Pickup and driver rescued from Snake River

 On Oct. 23, a white pickup truck ended up in the Snake River near Annex just down Ripple Road from the U.S. Highway 95 Spur bridge. The driver was transported by LifeFlight helicopter after emergency crews extracted him from the half-submerged vehicle.
