Youth basketball camp

Girls will want to sign up for a youth basketball camp coming up on June 10-12 directed by girls basketball coach Laraine Harrison. The camp will have two schedules daily. Girls in the second through fifth grades will attend from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Girls in sixth through ninth grades will attend from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Boys are welcome as well. Check in at 8:30 a.m. for the early camp and 12:30 p.m. for the later camp. Players need to wear gym shoes. The camp will be held in the auxiliary gym at Weiser High School. The cost is $30.

Youth Symphony Concert

The Weiser Youth Symphony will perform its Pops Concert along with special guest singers and music from Queen, the Hobbit, Fiddler on the Roof and others. This is a special thank you concert that will be held two nights, June 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Snake River Heritage Center in Weiser. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 each or $20 for a family.

Football camp

Weiser High School head football coach Tom Harrison is leading a football camp for high school players in grades 9-12 from June 3-7. On Monday, June 3, the equipment handout will take place at 8 a.m. at the track. Players will receive helmets only. Pads will be issued later. Starting on Tuesday the camp will start at 9 a.m. and last until noon. Players need to dress in workout gear and bring cleats. The cost is $40 for the camp. Soccer Camp

The Weiser Nazarene Church annual soccer camp will be held June 3-7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Weiser Nazarene Church, 510 East Indianhead Road. Joe Malay Youth Golf

A fun-filled week of golf is planned for June 3, 4, 6, 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Rolling Hills Golf Course for children ages 4 years old to 18 years old. Registration deadline is May 29 at the Weiser Recreation Department office. Come learn the fundamentals of golf. Equipment will be available.

Vivian (McPherson) Scott Muir

Vivian M. Muir passed away May 19, 2019, at the age of 96.
 She was born Sept. 24, 1922, to Del and Helen McPherson, and was raised and educated in the Elma/Aberdeen, Wash., area.
 She worked at the Bremerton Army Depot during WWII as a hyster driver where she met Arlie Scott who was in the Navy and stationed at Bremerton. They were married April 5, 1944, and moved to the Boise valley.
 They had three sons, Richard, Larry and Gene. Larry died at the age of three.

David H. Fager

David H. Fager, 76, long time Weiser resident, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on May 17, 2019.
 Dave was born May 27, 1942 to Leonard and Audrey Fager. He was the oldest of three children, later joined by Steve and Janet.
 Dave was a graduate of Payette High School, served in the U.S. Army, was an automobile mechanic at several local shops before finding his true passion as the school bus supervisor for the Weiser School District.

Thank you to the Elks Lodge and other volunteers for the placement of flags for Memorial Day at the Hillcrest Cemetery. It is great to see kids as part of that volunteer group learning the meaning behind the holiday and learning to respect our veterans.
 I was recently reading an article about the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment better known as the “Old Guard.”
 I won’t give the whole history but just a bit of their duty currently, which is to place flags at Arlington National Cemetery. If you are interested research this regiment. The history is interesting.

Wagon train covers 60 miles of Weiser River Trail

Riders on horseback and four wagons arrived in Midvale Saturday afternoon after completing day two of a 60-mile trek on the Weiser River Trail that started in Weiser on Friday and ended on Monday in Council.
 Along the way, the 25 participants in the 18th annual Weiser River Trail Wagon Train endured daily rain showers and enjoyed the changing scenery along the former railroad route.
