Vote no on Proposition 1
Dear Editor:
Recently, there was a letter calling current Idaho abortion laws “extreme.” Then, we were invited to consider “conservative values of personal liberty and minimal government intrusion in our lives,” followed by talk of “personal sovereignty.” Nice try.
First, Idaho’s current abortion law allows abortions for 1) rape, 2) incest, and 3) pregnant women with life-threatening medical conditions. If any women went outside Idaho for treatment it was because their physicians were ignorant of the law, or the pregnant woman’s condition was not actually life-threatening. There is no middle ground on that.
What Proposition 1, the Reproductive Freedom And Privacy Act does not do, is contemplate the right to life for the child in the womb. It does however, allow our society to further abdicate any form of “personal responsibility” by not taking precautions before becoming pregnant. You see, the Left wants babies in the womb to be disposed of on demand for the sake of convenience – otherwise known as “birth control.” It had been thus for nearly 50 years and over 60 million babies were murdered in a barbaric manner during various stages of development.
Thanks to the advent of ultrasound the proof is there for all to see – there is indeed a tiny person in the uterus, capable of pain.
I’ll never forget listening to Abby Johnson, the Planned Parenthood Director who quit her job after a physician had her assist with an ultrasound-guided abortion. She realized it was all a lie. She’d never be the same. She saw that little baby human moving all around, trying to avoid, even swatting at the intrusive device attacking and eventually killing that helpless tiny baby in what should have been the safest place – mother’s womb.
Isn’t it time to bring back personal responsibility instead of murdering the most helpless and vulnerable among us?
This proposed change in the law is, by design, so poorly written that parental rights are threatened, minor children can get hormone blockers and trans-surgeries will be coming back. Vote no on Prop 1. It’s too extreme for Idaho.
