In Weiser we trust

Dear Editor:
Our search for where we wanted to live took two years. Traveling through four states, visiting 15 cities, in the 2,500 mile journey, we knew Weiser was our ultimate destination.
That journey was five years ago. Today we are facing the inevitability of our city’s growth. Currently, we have assurances concerning our growth. The future is unclear.
In an effort to keep the door open to future growth, modification of our zoning code in the industrial area would minimize the city’s vulnerability.
In specific, Datacenters and other A-I related projects need special parameters.
City officials, elected and appointed, have a compilation of data, assessor maps and pictures that lay the foundation for questions.
ADTAQ data center downtown, “runs on the cheapest renewable power in the state.” A 15% electricity increase for us? ADTAQ = 55 households.
Existing city land as well as properties held in the county, by a developer in town, are possible sites for construction.
Concerns surrounding the nonconforming behavior relating to building permits, and lack of code enforcement, leave the corral gate open. Given the fact that potential utilities are in place and easy access to city owned water exists, verify the need for attention.
Copies of the proposed county code modifications have been made available.
What has been discussed to this point may be labeled coincidence.
Looking at the practical side of things, what developer?
Two firms in town linked by common ownership, have made significant investments that could facilitate a project of this type. Corporate connections exist between these local firms and a Washington based construction company that specializes in large scale electric construction. It has listed Weiser as one of their locations.
Discovered by our neighbors, outdated codes and a stroke  of the pen is all it takes. Review of our code 1-6-3 places us one step away.
The difference here is the vigilance of our citizens. Our trust, placed in those entrusted to guide and protect us make us who we are.
It is trust that puts the “WE” in Weiser.
