Wastewater plant protects health, environment
The Weiser Wastewater Treatment Plant plays a critical role in protecting our community’s health and environment. The facility is built to handle a hydraulic average capacity of 2.4 million gallons of wastewater per day, ensuring that the water processed meets or exceeds strict EPA and Idaho DEQ standards before it is released back into the environment.
An important part of the plant’s efficiency and sustainability comes from its biosolids program. After treatment, most solids are dried and provided to a local farmer for use as fertilizer, a practice that not only supports local agriculture but also saves the City the significant cost of transporting those materials to the Clay Peak Payette County Landfill.
The facility is overseen by Lonny Chambers, head of the wastewater department. He is supported by a dedicated and knowledgeable team: Pete Ney, Mack Kissel, Sjon Spens, Taylor Walker, and Doug Wicks. Their work ensures continuous, compliant, and reliable operations for the residents of Weiser.
Like their counterparts in the freshwater department, wastewater operators invest many hours each year in specialized training and continuing education. Maintaining their professional licenses requires ongoing coursework, testing, and certification through the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licensing and related governing bodies. Their commitment to this training ensures that Weiser’s wastewater systems continue to operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with state and federal regulations.
We are grateful for the professionalism, hard work, and dedication of the entire wastewater team and the essential service they provide to our community every single day.
