In support of True Pearce
To the Editor,
Washington County deserves a prosecuting attorney who will do the job the office demands: uphold the law, protect public safety, and pursue accountability without fear or favor. That
responsibility is not always popular or comfortable, but it is essential. Everything I describe here points directly to Prosecuting Attorney True Pearce and the kind of leadership he has brought to this office.
True Pearce has shown that a strong prosecuting attorney does not bend to pressure, personal politics, or the expectations of a good ol’ boys system simply because that may be what some have grown used to. A strong prosecuting attorney follows the law as written, stands firm in the face of criticism, and is willing to tell even fellow officials or members of the public when they are out of line. That is not arrogance, and it is not intimidation. That is integrity. That is leadership.
Washington County needs a prosecuting attorney who honors campaign commitments not with slogans, but with action. True Pearce has demonstrated that the role is not about protecting reputations, preserving old systems, or pleasing the loudest voices in the room. It is about protecting the people of this county and ensuring that the law is applied fairly and consistently for everyone.
Serving Washington County by enforcing the law, demanding accountability, and working to improve the integrity of county government is not the fulfillment of a personal agenda. It is the fulfillment of the oath of office.
What is especially troubling right now is the division being fueled within our Republican community and throughout the county as a whole. It is deeply disappointing to watch that kind of fracture encouraged for the sake of power, control, or political advantage. Those motivations are not worth the damage being done to this community.
True Pearce has shown a willingness to stand tall under pressure and do what is right, even when it comes at a personal and professional cost. At the end of the day, the people of Washington County must decide what kind of prosecuting attorney they want: one who is strong, accountable, principled, and committed to upholding the law fairly and consistently, or one who yields to pressure and protects the status quo. I know what kind of prosecuting attorney I want serving this county. The question is whether Washington County wants the same.
Sincerely,
Tanya Leuthold
