With spring-like weather, mayor encourages respect for parks and infrastructure

With the recent stretch of spring‑like weather, it’s a great time for all of us to get outside and enjoy Weiser’s beautiful parks and outdoor spaces. Our community fish pond is open, and the parks are beginning to green up – reminding us how fortunate we are to have such wonderful places to relax, play, and spend time with family and friends.
As we head outdoors, we kindly ask everyone to do their part in keeping our parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for all users. Please remember that riding e‑bikes on grassy areas can cause long‑lasting damage that affects the turf throughout the entire summer. We have also had instances of metal detecting that left unfilled holes. These openings not only kill the grass but create safety hazards for anyone walking through our parks.
Let’s work together to take care of these shared spaces. With a little consideration from each of us, we can ensure our parks remain healthy and welcoming for the whole community.
So let’s get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and make the most of the great outdoors here in Weiser.
I would like to bring up Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG).  With the new camera we are seeing many FOG problems all over town. It amazes me to see it and how fast it accumulates inside the sewer main lines. This can potentially cause a plugged-up sewer and cause home damage. It also costs the City workers more time to clean with the combo truck.  When City crews jet and clean the main line, the FOG goes to the wastewater plant and causes problems. It sticks to the walls of the treatment plant. If it is hot weather, it can stink and cause odors in the wastewater neighborhood. It plugs up the filter on the belt press, and we have to pressure wash the belts more often. It also degrades the quality of the bio solids and can hurt testing results.
The best thing a City resident can do is dump the fats, oils, and grease in the trash after cooking. You can also use a dry paper towel to clean pans out after cooking and throw those in the trash.  Do not flush them down in the toilet.
Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.
