Recognizing the team behind our water system

I would like to take a moment to recognize the dedicated men and women of the City of Weiser Water Department and to share a little about the work they do every day to keep our community supplied with safe, reliable drinking water.
The City’s drinking water system can treat and deliver approximately 3.0 million gallons of water per day, with a current storage capacity of 3.5 million gallons. We proudly serve 2,429 customers throughout the City of Weiser. This system is supported by approximately 43.9 miles of water pipeline, ranging in size from 4-inch to 24-inch mains, 1008 system valves, and 305 fire hydrants. All of which require constant inspection, maintenance, and repair.
Our operators are regularly sent to professional classes and training to maintain the required state licenses and certifications. This ongoing education ensures that our system meets all regulatory standards and continues to operate safely and efficiently.
The Water Department is led by Department Supervisor Bill Taylor, with Mike Shepherd serving as lead operator. Working alongside them are Ron Pope, Todd Schimmel, Sage Ruska, and Robert Strickler – the people truly “in the trenches” and in the plant every day, performing ongoing maintenance and responding to issues as they arise, often behind the scenes and outside normal working hours.
To all of you, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and continued service to our community. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and the City of Weiser is better because of you.
A reminder before spring irrigation start up. The City of Weiser has a state mandated cross connection control program to protect the public potable water system and requires testing of backflow prevention assemblies. We also perform surveys to identify possible cross-connections and inspections for proper installation of backflow assemblies. There are four local area backflow testers to choose from.
