Please obey road signs as they are for your protection

Our grandsons are becoming quite the entrepreneurs. Last summer the older one wanted to start saving his money to buy a dirt bike. Cathy and I decided it was time for me to stop mowing our yard and hire it out. His other grandparents also decided they needed help with various household chores. Of course, for some reason, we grandparents probably paid higher than market rates for his services. Also, since the older one was working, the younger one wanted to earn some money. He gets to run the leaf blower to clear the sidewalks.
This year, some friends decided they also need lawnmowing services, but they negotiated a lower “non-grandparent” rate. His business is growing.
Well, the funds added up fairly quickly, and for his birthday the parents went in half and surprised him with a used dirtbike.
Sunday, we had the pleasure of going out to the sand dunes to see our grandson get to try his bike out on the dirt trails. He made it up one of the hills, but it really tested his ability, so he stuck to the lower loops after that. The sand dunes are such a great place for riding.
What was really great was seeing our grandson be rewarded for working toward a goal and achieving it!
Now the younger one wants a dirtbike. Looks like we are not going to be in short supply for a lawnmowing service anytime soon.
Now on to City business.
At this time, the East Commercial Street rebuild project has started. The asphalt has been removed as well as the sidewalks. I would like to remind everyone that “Road Closed” signs mean just that. Please do not move the signs, cones, or other barriers to drive through. Up until this point, you would probably not have experienced any damage or injury, however, very soon there will be holes in the road as well as obstructions. For your own good and protection, please, pay attention to and obey the road signs.
Also, if you are interested in the history of Weiser and preserving Weiser’s past, you are invited to attend a meeting on Thursday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at the Train Depot. The meeting will be an information session by the Weiser Historical Preservation Committee on their projects and plans. This is a group that Cathy and I have gotten involved with in the last couple of years and have been very glad to have done so. So, if you have any inkling or interest in preserving part of what makes Weiser such a unique place to live, come on over to the Train Depot on Thursday. We look forward to seeing you there.
Speaking of seeing you there, the wonderful Weiser Library on May 1, at 6:30 p.m. will be hosting an advance screening of the new PBS Masterpiece Theater program “Miss Austen.” For all of you Jane Austen fans or anyone curious about Jane Austen, this should be a great event. There will even be light refreshments. So, come on over to the Library on May 1 for a bit of culture and food! It should be fun!
Well, that’s it for this week! It’s time for me to go home and enjoy a lawn I didn’t have to mow. Weiser really is a great place to live, work, and play!
