Oval Wayne Metcalf

Oval. Wayne Metcalf, 83, of Weiser, Idaho passed away Jan. 8, 2021.
 Oval was born July 4, 1937 in Madison, North Carolina to Ernest and Annie Metcalf, the second of five children.
 He attended Mars Hill High School where he was very active in team sports.
 While growing up he worked with his Dad growing and harvesting tobacco.
 The day came when the U.S. Army called and he was sent to serve in Germany from 1961-62 during the Berlin Crisis.
 Following his return to civilian life, he moved to various places, working different jobs until he decided to move to Red Bluff, Calif., where he had family. In Red Bluff he worked for years at the Diamond Company (paper plates, etc.).
 Oval loved to bowl at the Lariat Bowl where for years he retained the rank of High Bowler having many 300 games. And he was always ready to go fishing and hunting.
 In 1978 Oval met Chris Pollock. In 1979 Oval asked Chris what she wanted for Christmas. She replied, “just you.” The next day, Dec. 15, the couple, accompanied by several friends, went to Reno, Nev., to be married.
 In the late 1980s they came to Weiser, Idaho to visit, loved the area and decided to purchase their house in 1993. They moved to Weiser in 1996.
 Oval opened Chris’ Book Store and life in Idaho began. Oval joined the Elks Lodge and was very active in the Youth Scholarship Program along with being elected Exalted Ruler three times.
 Oval continued to enjoy bowling, hunting, fishing and reading.
 Oval was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Randy Dean Funk, Red Bluff, Calif.
 He is survived by his wife Chris, daughter Pam Tonnemacher (Dave), Oregon, sons Dwayne Metcalf, Oklahoma, and Robert Metcalf, Oregon, brothers Robert Metcalf, California and Hubert Metcalf, North Carolina, sisters Edna Dill, North Carolina, and Peggy Blaser, California.
 Oval was a great-great-grandfather, grandfather to several grandchildren and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
 An Elk Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
