The Weiser Police Department arrested one man after he crashed into the front porch of a residence on the 100 block of East Butterfield Ave. just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10. There were no injuries reported, but the home sustained significant structural damage.

According to the WPD report, the vehicle was reported to have been traveling at a high rate of speed going east on West Butterfield prior to the crash. A second residence also received damage to its front lawn and porch area as the vehicle crossed the property before coming to rest against the damaged house.

Richard Gonzalez remains in the Washington County jail on a $50,000 bond this week, charged with one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence, one count of misdemeanor reckless driving, and an infraction related to an open container of an alcoholic beverage being consumed or possessed by a passenger. Gonzalez entered pleas of not guilty to all three charges in court on Thursday, Dec. 11.

In addition, Gonzalez was arrested on a fugitive warrant out of California. During a separate arraignment the defendant waived extradition on the warrant.

A waiver of extradition is a legal agreement in which an individual consents to be transferred from one jurisdiction to another without requiring a formal extradition process.
