L. Elizabeth Cada Jan. 20, 1919 - Jan. 23, 2021

L. Elizabeth Cada, 102, of Weiser, Idaho passed away Jan. 23, 2021 at her home.
I turned 101 today and decided to write my obituary. I’m told I have a phenomenal memory and so blessed to be in my own home.
I was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Buffalo, Wyo., to Glenn and Lilly Shortill Peterson, the eighth of ten children.
In 1924 Dad went to California to work. Mom and nine of us children traveled to Boise on the train, at that time the train station was way upon a hill away from town. Aunt Anna picked us up and that was my first car ride!
I attended first grade at Longfellow Elementary. My two older brothers would take me to Camels Back Park. I would slide in a dishpan on the smaller sandstone hill, called Angels slide and the boys on Devils slide.
Dad moved us to Oakland, Calif., in 1926 and the next year to Los Angeles. About 2,500 kids at John Marshall School. Quite a culture shock to move to Lapwai, Idaho, with 200 kids. I graduated in 1937. Then graduated from Lewis Clark Normal in Lewiston, Idaho.
The fall of 1939 I was hired as a teacher at South Crane Creek School. And taught off and on for 8½ years.
I met Frank Cada and we were married on May 18, 1940. A lot of adventures and experiences with the Cada family. I had never ridden a horse, milked a cow, opened wire gates, or shot a rifle.
Fran was born Jan. 7, 1942. During the war we had ration coupons, and I sold war bonds. Dan was born May 18, 1943. Also different nieces and nephews lived with us at different times.
A big change was in 1948 when we received electricity. We were always busy with farming and the cattle. I also helped start the Midvale Library, president of Weiser River Cowbells, collected money for the Red Cross, the Bureau of Land Management put a weather station on the hill behind the house. Each morning I called the office in Boise and reported the weather.
Frank and I enjoyed visiting our children, grandchildren, family gatherings, reunions, and birthdays.
We sold the ranch in 1988 and bought this home in Weiser.
Frank passed away in 1996, and then our granddaughter Michele in 2014.
I enjoy living in the city of Weiser. The cats, birds and squirrels keep me entertained. I’m proud my Christmas cactus is 74 years old.
April 1, 2019 it was determined I could no longer live by myself. I now have two awesome caregivers, Shela and Jackie and Fran on weekends. Signature Health Care and Hospice, a group of very caring, thoughtful, considerate and helpful people.
Thank you to family and friends. Per my request, no services.
Elizabeth celebrated her 102nd birthday on Jan. 20, 2021 and passed away three days later. She was a lady. She was the last of her siblings and their spouses.
She is survived by her daughter, Fran (Chuck) Hardy, Boise; son, Dan, of Meridian, grandchildren, Joni Hardy, Hamilton, Mont.; Steve (Candace) Hardy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Shawn (Alan) Arendall, Douglasville, Georgia; Mark Cada, Nampa; great- grandchildren, Lydia, Ty (Tasha), Max, Sam, Lily, Brooke, Siena, Luca, Ashton, Jade, Zac, and Julia and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to your favorite charity or Angel Wings Network, Inc.
