How will the city discern if a car is abandoned or just not being used?
Dear Editor,
I was happy to read in the April 3 issue of the Weiser Signal American that the City of Weiser will be taking steps to eliminate abandoned vehicles and obstructions on our city streets. This is long overdue and a positive step in cleaning up our city.
However, the city ordinance that cars parked on the street and not being moved for 48 hours being considered abandoned is ridiculous. Many homes in Weiser were built prior to the two-vehicle family, heck many were built before families had one vehicle and the parking situation reflects that and forces many to park on city streets instead of their own property.
The mayor has taken many steps to encourage walking in Weiser. I walk to
work whenever possible myself, resulting in my car not moving for many days. Fortunately, we have adequate parking space on our property, but if we didn’t I would be violating the ordinance on a weekly basis.
Also, those who are not well on vacation or just don’t go out much will also be in violation. The question I have is…
How will the city discern between an abandoned vehicle or one that just doesn’t get used much?
Respectfully,
Christina Stanley
