Enjoy the yard sales, please no signs on city property

Mayor Randy Hibberd
I hope all of you dads out there had a great Father’s Day last Sunday! Cathy and I had met up with family earlier in the week and so we had Sunday to ourselves. We took advantage of the weather to enjoy each other’s company by driving to McCall for lunch with a nice view of the lake.
The drive was as enjoyable as the lunch. The snow is just about off from the highest peaks. Everything was still green as we drove up through the valleys. The air was just the right temperature. We were able to have the top down on our little convertible, so it was just a great pleasant drive. It’s great to enjoy Idaho’s scenery.
 Now on to City news.
Your street department supervisor, Ron McDaniel, would like to remind all of you who will be having a yard sale or garage sale this week, that signs cannot be placed in any of the City’s parks. The parks belong to all of us and signs are considered a defacement and litter. Also, please be so kind as to retrieve your signs after your yard sale is over.
Ron would also like you to know that duct-taping (or any taping or attaching) signs to street signs is, again, not allowed. It may not seem like this would cause damage to the signs but the tape actually pulls off the paint when removed. When the tape doesn’t pull off the paint, the residue blocks the reflective paint that allows the sign to be seen at night.
Keeping with the yard sale theme, Wayne Wallace, your electrical department supervisor, would like to remind you to not staple, pin, nail, etc., any signs to power poles. This may not seem like a big issue, but the tiny holes allow bugs to get past the treated exterior of the pole to feast on the inside. Poles are expensive and not easy to replace, so please do not attach signs to the power poles.
On another note, Timbra Long, your librarian extraordinaire, would like you to mark your calendars for the Library’s summer schedule, which is as follows:
Color our World! – Summer Reading Program 1 p.m. weekly.
July 2 – Messy Paint Day! (Sounds interesting. I’ve never heard of neat paint.)
July 9 – Mario Bro’s Meet and Greet.
July 16 – Dancing Fun (you won’t see me there. Two left feet.)
 July 23 – Dr. Picidestein – STEM.
These events are sponsored by the LOR Foundation and the Friends of the Library. If you have any questions, just call 208-549-1243. I’m going to call and ask if they will have a neat paint event.
Last, but not least, I would like to let you know about a policy change at the Weiser Memorial Swimming Pool. In the past, to watch expenses, if there were five or fewer swimmers in the pool for an hour or longer, the lifeguards were allowed to close the pool. This will no longer be the case. The pool will be open during the posted hours unless a safety issue such as weather, chemical imbalances, or lifeguard shortage requires the pool to be closed.
Well, that’s it for this week. I hope you have had a good Fiddling Time. Weiser really is a great place to live, work, and play.
