Enjoy a nice stroll along the bridge-to-bridge pathway

This last Saturday, Cathy and I had the pleasure of introducing our son-in-law to the Weiser Community Fishing Pond. He was wanting to do something after the grandsons had mowed our yard. They all had their fishing poles, so we went down to the pond to try to see about enticing a fish or two to join us for lunch. We didn’t have much luck with the fish, but we did have a good time enjoying the setting and each other’s company.
The fishing pond is really a community treasure. If you have not had the chance to check it out, it is at the south end of E. 4th Street. It is not simply a body of water with fish in it. The fishing pond was designed and constructed under the supervision of the Indianhead Fly Fishers Club. It is handicap accessible with a fishing deck over the water. A wide pathway encircles the pond, half of it paved, the other half gravel. The LOR Foundation (who deserve a huge THANK YOU!) will be providing funding later this summer to complete the paving. The pond is also aerated to keep the fish healthy since it is a still body of water. If you have never been to the pond, you owe it to yourself to go there with your pole or just take a stroll. You won’t regret it!
Speaking of taking a stroll, Natasha McDaniel has informed me that the bridge-to-bridge pathway is now open for your use. By bridge-to-bridge we mean from the Weiser River Bridge on Highway 95 to the Snake River Bridge going to Annex. This provides an approximately two-mile walking path for those who would like a nice quiet walk in a natural setting along the Weiser River. I don’t know if hiking can get much better than that!
The pathway is not finished. There are still benches and signs to be installed, but the pathway itself is open. For those who may not know, this has been a dream for many residents for at least a couple of decades.
Again, a BIG THANKS! goes to the LOR Foundation for funding this project. Thank you, Natasha and Bill Taylor for doing the spearheading.
Now on to City news.
Ken Anderson, the Weiser Recreation Department director is once again looking for lifeguards to guard lives at the swimming pool for the summer season. Prospective lifeguards must be at least 15 years old, have the ability to lift 50 pounds, and be able to obtain CPR and lifeguard certification. The City will pay for the training as long as the applicant is able to pass. The starting wage is $10 or higher depending on experience.
So, if you or someone you know is looking for a great job this summer, please don’t hesitate to pick up an application at 309 State Street (the Vendome Office). If you have any questions, just call Ken or Jhonna at the Weiser Recreation Department at 208-414-0301.
Spending the summer sitting by a pool. What could be better!?
Well, that’s it for this week! The fishing pond REALLY is a GEM! Thank you Fly Fishers! Weiser is a great place to live, work, and play!
