Cove Road closed to thru traffic

During Monday’s Aug. 11, Washington County Commissioners meeting, Road and Bridge Supervisor Jerod Odoms reported traffic control signs had been placed that morning, closing Cove Road to thru traffic where East Main Street becomes Cove Road, and at the Couper and Cove Road intersection in preparation for construction to begin on Cove Bridge.

Odoms said he had met the previous week with the contractor, surveyor, lead engineer, and LHTAC on the project, going over an outline of everything expected to happen as the project rolls out.

“So we'll see equipment coming in, then you’ll start seeing things move pretty quickly,” Odoms said. “They’re going to start taking out vegetation, the fences that we need to move, and then they’re going to start removing that bridge.”

“This closure will last until the new bridge is completed next year,” Odoms told the Signal American Thursday morning, Aug. 14. “The contractor will begin moving in equipment shortly.”

Once equipment has been moved in only authorized officials and personnel will be allowed at the bridge construction site.
