City will be enforcing the parking ordinance on May 1

Mayor Randy Hibberd
It’s hard to believe that April is already here. I walked out of the front door this morning and saw the first tulip open in the yard. I’m not complaining. I am so glad that winter is behind us. It is just that time is moving so quickly. Who knows – maybe May may be just around the corner.
OK, on to something else. This last weekend Cathy and I had the pleasure of taking our grandsons to a kid’s movie in Nampa. Of course, we ask them questions to find out what is going on in their young worlds. The older one volunteers information rather freely and we find out all kinds of things.
The younger one, not so much. His answers tend to revolve around what he had for lunch. It’s not so much that there isn’t anything for him to say, it’s just that he doesn’t like to reveal much. So, he puts you off by talking about his banal lunch.
Well, we began asking questions to steer his answers away from lunch. It got to be a game for him to answer our questions, but work lunch into his response. The creativity got to be amazing as we tried to stump him.
He also wanted to play a game on my phone, so I told him he could if he could answer my questions without mentioning lunch. It was like a firehose had opened. He started telling us stuff and would not stop. Cathy and I about split a gut. Grandkids are so much fun.
And now on to City business.
If you have a chance, take a drive by Memorial Park, and take a look at what is going on just north of the tennis courts. Very soon, there will be a new covered area available for your gatherings. Included in this project are firepits both at the new covered location and at the north covered area. While you are there you might notice the gazebo going over the parents’ seating area for the kid’s playground.
Once again, we would like to thank the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for the generous grant that has funded this project. It won’t be long before the construction fence comes down and these new features will be open for your use!
In addition, Natasha McDaniel, the City Clerk, would like to remind you that the City has the “Adopt-a-Truck” program for your spring (summer and fall) cleanup projects. If you would like a dump truck to haul away yard waste, old furniture, appliances, etc., just come down to City Hall and reserve one for an evening or weekend. The City will park the truck after hours where you would like it parked and come the next workday morning to take it to the dump. No charge. This is the City’s way to help you help keep Weiser a great place to live, work, and play.
Also, I would like to remind everyone that on May 1 the City will begin a concentrated effort to enforce the parking ordinance for the City streets. The City’s ordinance states that cars parked on the street that have not moved in 48 hours are considered abandoned. Also, the City’s ordinance states that “non-motorized obstructions” must not be parked on the streets. “Obstructions” are any object including but not limited to all trailers whether attached or unattached to a vehicle such as semitruck trailers, camp trailers, utility trailers, and horse trailers.
We want to give you advanced warning about this effort to remove obstructions from the streets before it takes place. If you have any questions or comments regarding this, please feel free to call City Hall at 208-414-1965 or the Police Department at 208-414-2244.
Well, that’s it for this week. I hope by this time next week, that one tulip has lots of company in my yard! Have a great week.
