 The Upper Country Singers will present their annual Christmas concert Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds exhibit hall in Cambridge. The theme this year is “Let There Be Christmas,” highlighting the words to that beloved Alan Jackson Christmas hit.

 Audience members will be entertained with favorites such as “Sleigh Ride” and “Here We Come A-Caroling,” as well as new arrangements of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” and “What A Glorious Night.” The afternoon entertainment also includes instrumental selections on harp and violins.  

It’s time for the wrestling team to hit the mats. They have been working hard these past couple of weeks in anticipation of the season opener. That opener is a dual meet at Capital on Dec. 5 and 6. It’s a dual in a pod type of situation where depending on your outcome in the first dual, determines which team you wrestle next in a dual. Weiser is boasting 29 wrestlers out with two of those being women in returning three year wrestler Corianna Parsons and first time wrestler Natalya Hoobery.

 In July, the Washington County BOCC summarily fired our entire county P&Z commission for not getting along with our new prosecuting attorney. In September, they held a two hour late afternoon public hearing at the Vendome to consider proposed changes to our P&Z enabling ordinance which reduced commission size and residency requirements. More than 100 citizens attended, 95% of whom opposed those changes. Weeks passed before they quietly and without transparent public notice, voted to withdraw the proposed ordinance.

I hope you had a very Happy Thanksgiving! Being thankful is such an important part of living a healthy fulfilling life that it is wonderful and wise to have a holiday just for this purpose.

 Our families this year ended up going in different directions, so Cathy and I took the opportunity to head to one of our favorite places, the Oregon coast. The condominium Cathy found for us was on the third floor directly overlooking a small creek running through the rocks to the waves. Waves were constantly breaking on the rocks below. It was great.
