City funds new fire engine pump

The Weiser Fire District aims to fix an out-of-commission engine with city approval for repairs.
The Weiser City Council unanimously signed off on a formal request from Fire Chief Vernon “Bud” Fisher to purchase and install a new pump on its 1996 Freightliner Central States engine.
The move sets aside up to $50,000 for parts and repairs, with the city receiving an invoice for 50% of expenses. Fisher put the value of the engine itself at upwards of $270,000, City Councilman Herb Haun said.

Rooted in ranch life, Jones will lead Midvale schools to rural excellence

MIDVALE – Matt Jones wants people to know the Midvale School District has a lot to offer.
“This is probably the closest thing to being in a private school in the public sector,” he said.
Jones, the new superintendent for the Midvale School District, said that’s because of the district’s small class sizes – usually between seven and 15 students – and “great facilities.”
“We have great CTE (career and technical education) and agriculture programs and other leadership programs and we have an experienced, veteran staff,” he said.

Small town newspapers keep the community informed

I wish to comment on Nancy Grindstaff’s article titled “Local news belongs in front of its readers” in the August, 21, 2025 edition of the Weiser Signal American. It was most informative and valuable.
This article shared an important truth which some people have not considered, or are unaware of.
As an adult I have lived in both large cities and rural communities, I love the camaraderie of small towns, and a vital part of that camaraderie is the local newspaper.

Appalled about another school district levy

I am writing this to address the Weiser School Districts’ proposed levy for the Nov. 4 election. I am appalled that the district would attempt to put another levy on the backs of home owners.
When will it end? It seems that we have had school district levy’s on each of the past three elections (one being a special election).
