Weiser beats 4A Columbia in the last seconds of the game

 The Lady Wolverines hosted the visiting 4A Columbia High School Wildcats late last week at Tom Falash Gymnasium and added to their five game winning streak with a barn burner one-point win 37-36 that came down to free throws.
 The Lady Wolverines and the Columbia Wildcats battled it out in the first period.  The Wildcats found success from the field with three 2-point buckets, one free throw and a 3-point basket for 10-points, but the Lady Wolverines edged out the Wildcats to take an 11-10 lead after one period.

 Eleven teams travelled to Elgin, Ore., this past weekend to compete in the first annual Elgin Memorial Classic. This tournament is one that every wrestler wants to win because of the coveted belt buckle award and this year each first place winner was awarded a buckle.  
 There was some good competition for both the boys and girls wrestling Wolverines and Weiser had a strong turnout.  

Weiser takes conference win against McCall-Donnelly

 The Lady Wolverines hosted the visiting McCall-Donnelly Vandals last Tuesday for their first Snake River Valley (SRV) Conference match-up of the season.  
 The Lady Wolverines brought their fast paced, high-energy game of late back to their home court and they punished the Vandals on both ends of the hard wood, taking an impressive 49-25 win.

Weiser’s fast pace and tough defense was too much for Vale

 The Lady Wolverines hit the road across the border on Dec. 10, 2021 to play the Vale Vikings.  
 The Lady Wolverines bested the Vikings in their first meeting 49-32 and they hoped for a repeat of their previous performance.  
 The fast pace and tough defense of the Lady Wolverines was again too much for the Viking squad, and the Lady Wolverines took the game 45-24, adding to their non-conference win record 5-2.

Spencer named 3A Player of the Year; Harrison is Coach of the Year

The 2021 All-Idaho 3A football picks have been released.

Wolverine quarterback Brett Spencer was named 3A Player of the Year and Weiser Head Coach Tom Harrison was voted 3A Coach of the Year.

Several other players were chosen as First-Team and Second-Team selections. Look for the full story in next week's (Dec. 22) issue of the Weiser Signal American.

State superintendent Ybarra visits WHS

 Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherry Ybarra visited Weiser High School Monday, Dec. 13.
 Ybarra was invited by WHS Associated Student Body President and Student Advisory Council member Brylee Williams to see the school and discuss the role students play as representatives and the opportunity they have to help shape education in Idaho.

Weiser Police Department welcomes new recruit

 In only her first week, the Weiser Police Department’s newest officer was responsible for two alerts and one presumed criminal arrest.
 She is spirited, loving, and has a nose for contraband.
 “Phoenix,” a two-year-old, 35-pound black Lab, has already proven her worth as the second addition to the Department’s K-9 unit.
 She is also everything handler and Weiser Police Officer Austin Stratton was hoping for.
