Painting on Indianhead Road

The Weiser Valley Highway District crew painted the center line on Indianhead Road last week. Road supervisor Dave Stiff
is running the paint stripper with Zack Davis placing cones to alert drivers of fresh paint. The highway district is in charge
of taking care of the roads west of the Weiser city limits on the Weiser Flat. The highway district is considering abandoning
and vacating Curlew Hills Drive and related roads generally located west of Jenkins Creek Road. The public hearing will be
held on October 13.

Weiser teacher inspired many students

Almeda Coons taught generations
of Weiser students how to
diagram sentences and write book
reports during her 40 years as
an English teacher in the school
district. She continued to inspire
many through her Weiser spirit
and her contributions to education
throughout her retirement.
She lived a long life, passing
away at the age of 92 on September
21.
Her story is one of finding one’s
true calling. No one ever doubted
that Coons had a career she loved

Commissioners vote 2-1 in favor of three ordinances at Monday’s meeting

Washington County commissioners adopted Ordinances 86, 87, and 88 on a 2-1 vote at the Monday meeting. All three ordinances were amended based on the testimonies heard at the September 21 public hearing as well as a statement from the Idaho Attorney General office.
“The federal government may decide to sue us on this, but it’s based on the laws that they claim they follow,” Commissioner Kirk Chandler said at the meeting.

Lady Wolverines take 3 set sweep over Homedale; lose to Fruitland in 4 sets

The Lady Wolverines hit the road to Homedale last week for a league match-up.
 The Weiser ladies played well and expanded their league record to 2-0 with a 3-set sweep over the Trojans, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-19.

Weiser plays tough game against the McCall-Donnelly Vandals in conference action

The Weiser High School boys soccer team played their second conference game on Tuesday, September 22. It was the first game of the season against McCall Donnelly Vandals and proved to be a tough competition.  
 Play started with a quick attempt for a goal by McCall that was unsuccessful.
 Weiser took control of the ball and headed down the field and spent some time near the McCall goal. McCall fouled and gave Weiser the chance to score, but McCall’s defense blocked the goal, as well as several more Weiser attempts over the course of the next few minutes.  

Wolverines suffer tough loss to Fruitland

Weiser travelled to Fruitland this past Friday night for a controversial game following the recent playbook scandal. Fans packed the stands to see who would come out on top.  
 Weiser was the first to receive the ball and although they moved the ball well down the field, penalties added too many yards for the Wolverines to overcome and the ball was turned over to Fruitland on downs.  

Mystics Sisters to feature local arts and crafts

Amie Van Curen and Michelle Arntson have created a place in Weiser for artisans to share their work with local consumers and for people to come together and find beauty in their new shop The Mystic Sisters.
 Van Curen is an Idaho native who moved to Weiser three years ago. A life-long artist, Van Curen had always dreamed of opening a shop with an eclectic bohemian feeling where artisans could sell their work.

Library Book Sale

The Weiser Public Library will have a used book sale Monday through Friday, October 5-9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be located in the back meeting room of the library. There will be books, dvds, and audio books.

Elks Harvest Ball

The Elks annual harvest ball will be Saturday October 10th from 8 p.m. until midnight. The Darcy Band will be playing. Tickets are $10 per person and all profits go to our local charities. Tickets can be purchased at the Elks Lounge at 38 W. Idaho St.
