City adjusts garbage pickup for fall and winter
By:
Mayor Herb Haun
The City Council has decided to move to one garbage pickup per week through the fall and winter months. You should receive a notice with your next city bill with more information.
The City Council will reconsider two pickups per week in the spring.
I would also like to thank our City Street Department and all of the additional crews who helped make last week’s chip seal project on our streets a success. Chip sealing can extend the life of streets that are in good condition by 15 to 20 years.
I am often asked why we don’t chip seal streets that are already in worse shape. Unfortunately, chip sealing does not provide the same long-lasting results on streets that have significant deterioration. Those streets generally require replacement or complete reconstruction within a relatively short amount of time, making chip sealing a poor investment for them.
Weiser schools have a full schedule of fall sports, from recreation programs through middle school and high school. Our kids are also selling Wolverine cards to help cover the costs of travel and other expenses. We usually end up with a few extra cards around our house because my wife just can’t tell a kid no!
Please get out and support all of our different sports teams and, of course, our great marching band. Our students work hard, and your support means a lot to them and to our community.
Next week, we will celebrate Labor Day, officially proclaimed a holiday in 1894 to mark the end of summer and give working people a day of rest. It will be nice to see more comfortable daytime temperatures.
