Idaho Humanities Council announces a number of educational opportunities
Recently appointed to the Idaho Humanities Council, Weiser’s Tony Edmondson has shared a recent list of IHC opportunities for both Idaho educators and students.
Summer institute for educators
Teachers across the state are encouraged to apply for one of 30 to 40 spots at the IHC annual week-long summer teacher institute. It will be held July 21-26 at the Idaho State Museum and Boise State University, with the theme “250 Years of American Dreams: The Past, Present, and Possibilities.”
With the entire nation preparing to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the institute will prepare teachers to mark the occasion with their students throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
“All participants will be immersed in the study of the humanities,” the IHC newsletter reads. The Council will provide all expenses for 30 to 40 teachers, which includes room, board, texts and materials, and a travel stipend.
“We seek applicants from every region of the state and select participants to provide a balance in regions, disciplines taught, grade levels taught, gender, and a mix of new participants with veteran institute participants.”
As well, teachers can choose to register for continuing education credits.
K-12 Educator Grants
With an award size of $1,000, IHC’s educator grants focus on supporting Idaho K-12 teachers, supporting projects that might include field trips, teacher workshops, book purchases, or conference attendance costs, to name a few.
The grant goals include: enhancing humanities education across Idaho; supporting Idaho’s K-12 teachers; and creating opportunities for curriculum and professional development.
The next round of applications are due April 1, with a two-week waiting period for a decision from the due date.
“Fire Keeper’s Daughter” author will lecture
In partnership with The Cabin, the Idaho Humanities Council is hosting best-selling author Angeline Boulley on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at The Egyptian Theatre.
Earlier that day, Boulley will be speaking to students at two assemblies at Borah High School. All 11th graders in the Boise School District will get to participate.
Those outside of the BSD who are interested in attending may contact Johanna Bringhurst at johanna@idahohumanities.org.
