Weiser High School’s award-winning cheer team will begin its competitive season on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Treasure Valley Cheer Invitational at Eagle High School.
On Monday, Jan. 20, WHS head cheer coach Nicole Ramirez had the competition schedule in hand and told the Signal American her team would be leaving Weiser High School no later than 6 a.m. on Friday morning.
“We have to check in at Eagle by 7:30 a.m., and that’s about an hour and 10 minute drive, so we’ll probably be leaving by 5:45 a.m., or no later than 6 a.m.,” she said.
Ramirez said the competition will hold 6A to 3A school classifications, all competing in the same arena.
“A lot of teams we haven’t seen will be there,” Ramirez said. “In our 4A classification, we will be competing with Fruitland, McCall-Donnelly, Homedale, and Preston, which we haven’t seen before.”
Ramirez said the competition schedule has the school classifications moving back and forth in each competitive time frame, beginning with Pom performances.
“Competition begins at 9, starting with pom, then show, then sideline,” she said. “We can have an hour or two between our routine performances.”
The cheer team is scheduled for two more competitions in the season, the next one being District championships at Meridian High School on Saturday, Feb. 8, followed by State Cheer Championships at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa on Feb. 28.
 Good luck, Lady Wolverines!
