Weiser Memorial Hospital ranks high in Best Places to Work in Idaho

Weiser Memorial Hospital has received Honorable Mention status in this year’s 2021 Best Places to Work in Idaho Program.
Launched in 2007, the program recognizes Idaho employers who go above and beyond in creating a top-level work environment for their employees.
“While we did not make the top 10, we were honorable mention this year and that is worth celebrating,” said WMH Chief Executive Officer Steven Hale.
Employers with above average employee experience, but whose scores were not quite high enough to finish in the top 10, receive Honorable Mention status, according to WMH Community Relations Manager Layna Hafer.
Not all employers who participate are ranked among Idaho’s top places to work.
“Top 10 and those listed for Honorable Mention are the names of our state’s employers where people can find work that is not only financially rewarding, but emotionally and mentally rewarding as well,” Hafer said.
Employers who take part in the Program register through POPULUS, a Human Resources and Marketing Research Firm that provides employees with confidential survey questions.
Some of the survey questions also invite employees to provide additional comments, which will be made available to the hospital in the coming weeks.
A minimum of 60 percent of staff must participate for an employer to be eligible for an award. Awards are based on employee survey results.
“Our employees are what make WMH what it is and without them, we could not live out our mission ‘To save lives, improve health and build community.’” Hale said.
Participation in the Program, in part, helps attract top talent in a competitive field.
“The healthcare industry is very competitive and everyone is vying to hire what has become a very small and selective pool of candidates,” Hale explained. “Being named as one of the Best Places to Work in Idaho helps to distinguish Weiser Memorial Hospital and our clinics as a place that prospective candidates would look at closer when making their decisions where to work.”
The Program helps employers identify what they are doing right and where they need to improve to make them more attractive to potential employees, and gives employees a sense of pride for their own contributions to their company’s success.
Hale reported a visible change in his employees after learning about the results of the program.
I saw a renewed sense of pride in our employees and a validation that they were being recognized for the great work they do every day.
Here are some ways participants can benefit, according to Hafer:
Learning what our employees most value in their workplace and the impact these preferences have on overall employee satisfaction and loyalty.
Identifies us as an Idaho organization with best practices in compensation and benefits, work environment, company management, employee growth and development, and work-life balance and shows how we compare on each dimension to the top performers.
Demonstrates to employees a commitment to creating and maintaining a workplace that strives for excellence.
“Our success is based on recognizing and building on the strengths of each employee,” Hale said. “We have worked hard at building a culture where recognition is ingrained into our daily lives here.
“Our employee engagement programs have created employees who are excited to come to work and make a difference with the organization and our patients. When they are excited about coming to work each day, it is reflected in the care and consideration they demonstrate to our patients, visitors and co-workers.”
