Weiser defeated Fruitland by 20 points, winning 60-40

The Lady Weiser Wolverines hosted the Fruitland Grizzlies on Jan. 25. Weiser played solid winning by 20 points with a final score of 60-40.
Weiser got on the board first with a deep 3-pointer; in transition, Kailee Lerew made a nice pass to Ellie Shirts, who drained a perfect shot. Shortly after, Shirts with an offensive rebound, kicked it out to Lerew, who made a basket just inside the 3-point line for 2 points.
After 2:30 of play, Fruitland finally scored their first points of the game. Weiser then quickly added 5 points: first, Hailey Eames found Evie Dolton for 2 points during a press break, followed by another 3-pointer from Ellie Shirts.
Fruitland then found some rhythm and tied the game at 10 with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, Weiser soon took the lead back going up by 6. At the end of the first, the score was Weiser 18, Fruitland 12.
The Grizzlies quickly scored with their first possession of the second quarter. The Wolverines responded with a jump shot from Ellie Shirts, a bucket near the elbow from Dolton, and then Eames had a rebound putback. Just 90 seconds into the quarter, Weiser held a 10-point lead, 24-14.
For the next couple of minutes, both teams went hard to the rim. Jordan Stromberg scored two buckets and Lerew added a free throw. Playing solid defense, Ellie Shirts recorded a fast break blocked shot, preventing Fruitland from scoring on an open layup. Soon after, she then took a hard charge as she positioned herself on another fast break by Fruitland.
As the teams headed into halftime, the score was Weiser 29, Fruitland 21.
The third quarter opened with the Wolverines scoring 8 unanswered points. During a sideline inbounds play, Ellie Shirts found Lerew open on the backside for an easy 2 points. Soon after, in a fast break, Sophia Shirts stopped inside and passed the ball to Ellie, who hit a crowd-pleasing 3-pointer. Ninety seconds later, Lerew kicked the ball out to Sophia Shirts, who made a 3-point shot from beyond the arc.
Over 3 minutes into the third, the Grizzlies recorded their first points of the second half.
Weiser continuing to apply pressure, went on another scoring run putting up 11 unanswered points over the next three minutes. In the final 90 seconds of the third, Fruitland managed to add 3 points.
The third quarter ended with Weiser leading by 22 points, 48 to 26.
In the final period, the Grizzlies had their highest-scoring quarter of the game, putting up 14 points that they spread throughout the 8 minutes. The Wolverines keeping in step added 12 points.
It took Weiser about two minutes to find their rhythm. Dolton got it going with a rebound putback. Just over a minute later, Lerew, near the block, passed the ball to Sophia Shirts, who hit a 3-pointer. Then, Eames grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Ellie Shirts for another 3-pointer.
The game concluded with Lerew passing the ball to Ellie Shirts for a fast break layup, followed by Sophia Shirts assisting Eames for a post move score that put Weiser ahead by 20 points.
The Wolverines defeated the Grizzlies with a final score of 60 to 40.
Ellie Shirts led Weiser with 25 points and leading Weiser to their 60-point total. Eames contributed 10 points, Sophia Shirts had 8, Lerew scored 7, Dolton added 6, and Stromberg chipped in 4 points.
