Valerie Johnson-Chadwick

Valerie Ann Chadwick, 71, of Weiser, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on the night of October 17, 2020 after a long life of loving self-sacrifice and service to others.

Valerie was born on November 13, 1948 to Val and Mary Johnson and lived with her family in the Oregon slope area across the Snake River from Weiser, Idaho. She attended Annex Grade School and graduated from Weiser High school in 1966. After earning an associate degree from Treasure Valley Community College, she continued her education at the University of Oregon where she acquired both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Art Education in 1971.

Valerie and her husband, Michael Chadwick, were high school sweethearts who reconnected during college. After a whirlwind courtship, she and Michael L. Chadwick were married in 1971 and later were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple in 1972. They were very excited to welcome their firstborn child, Michael, in 1975, and went on to have 4 other children, Daniel, Michelle, Rebekah and Rachel.

With the addition of children, Valerie decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic, wonderful mother. Valerie excelled at teaching and guiding her children, and helping her husband Michael with his career.  She also assisted her family through the many challenges and difficulties of life and shared in their successes. Valerie embodied Christ-like love in her support of her children, husband, and extended family. She made it her singular mission in life to improve the lives of all around her. She held numerous church callings and loved to serve her church family and community, especially through art and music.

Valerie was a co-founder of Global Affairs Publishing, passionate teacher, artist, published illustrator, pianist, composer, poet, writer, and painter. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth, love, and kindness, she could often be found playing the piano, composing music, drawing, sketching portraits, painting, writing poetry, and gardening. She was also a passionate healer and herbalist. She loved animals throughout her life. Valerie will be greatly missed by her canine companions. We will miss her Christ-like example of unconditional love, kindness and service to everyone who was blessed to know her. She could not see a need go unfulfilled.

Valerie had immovable faith and love for her Savior Jesus Christ. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She believed we are here to build a legacy of love, faith, service, and sacrifice.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents Val and Mary Johnson, her brother Sam, her son Daniel her granddaughter Elizabeth Louder, her nephew Robert Johnson, and close friend and sister-in-law, Deborah Johnson. She is survived by her husband Michael Chadwick Sr., her brothers Cy and Bob Johnson, her children Michael Chadwick Jr, Michelle Chadwick, Rebekah Louder, Rachel Jarrell, and her grandchildren Gavin, Sydney, Sage and Amelia Louder, plus Alex and Hunter Jarrell.

The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Thomason Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of her life on October 27, 2020. Her viewing will be at 9 am at Thomason Funeral Home. Her celebration of her life will be at 11 am at Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at 12 pm at the LDS Church in Weiser, Idaho.
