Lady Wolverines place fourth at state championship

The Weiser High School cross country team finished their season strong with a great showing at the IHSAA State Cross Country Championships at the Portneuf Wellness Complex in Pocatello, Idaho. All of the runners ran well, completing the race with excellent times. The girls team took fourth place overall with three runners finishing in the top 20.
Coach Scott Hale shared that he could not be more proud of all of the runners for their performance throughout the season.
“The athletes showed a lot of resilience running in near freezing temperatures. We ended up being the most successful year we’ve had for Weiser cross country in several years,” Hale said.
In the 5000 meter women’s varsity race, Sage Lyon of South Fremont set the pace with a first place finish of 19:09.66. Weiser’s top runner Claire Matthews, finished in sixth place with a time of 20:19.95. Kailee Lerew finished with a 15th place time of 20:58.48. Kendall Rynearson finished in 18th with a time of 21:02.24. Corianna Parsons finished with a time of 24:34.35. Sarah Henderson finished with a time of 25:32.83. Alba Gonzalez finished with a time of 26:40.25.
Weiser finished in fourth place overall. The state championship team was Snake River. Sugar Salem finished in second. Teton in third. McCall-Donnelly finished in fifth behind Weiser. Timberlake came in sixth with Parma in seventh.
In the men’s 5000 meter varsity race, George Speirs from McCall Donnelly set the pace for the race with a first place finish of 15:57.43. Weiser’s fastest runner of the day, Blake Quinton finished in 24th place with a time of 17:31.33. Judah Parsons finished with a time of 17:37.37. Josh Kelley finished with a time of 18:00.00. George Martinez finished with a PR time of 18:32.69. Alex Woods finished with a PR time of 19:33.3. Eli Woods finished with a time of 20:32.15. Ammon Anderson finished with a time of 20:39.56. Overall, Weiser finished in eighth place as a team.
The state champion team was South Fremont with a score of 63. Teton finished in second place with a score of 74. Timberlake was third with a score of 95. McCall Donnelly was fourth, Kimberly fifth, Fruitland sixth, Snake River seventh.
