Lady Wolverines headed to State golf championships

Monday’s wind gusts nearing 30 miles an hour didn’t keep Weiser High School’s Lady Wolverine golf team from winning the 4A District tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Course, shooting 73 strokes under their nearest competitor, McCall, and closing out the day with 379 on 18 holes.

 Individually, Weiser’s Lucy Hickey was the first place medalist with 82 strokes, and teammate Samantha Kingsbury won the second medal with a score of 92, and Presley Williams placed third among state individual qualifiers with a 95. McCall’s Bisbee Henderson and Zoey Dines each qualified with scores of 102 and 107, respectively, as well as the Lady Vandals earning a spot at State placing in second place, with 452 strokes.

 The boys’ District team title went to Homedale’s Trojans, shooting a low score of 344, and McCall’s Vandals in second scoring 355. Vandal Jake Cramblet won the first place individual medal with a 79, and Homedale’s McCoy Swallow shot an 84 for second.  Splitting third and fourth with 84s, were Fruitland’s R. Pierce and McCall’s Gus Dyson. Homedale’s Tyler Erickson is going to State with an 86, and teammate Breken Frank and Cole Valley’s Kelvin Craig tied for sixth with 87s, also qualifying individually.

 Girls team results: Weiser 379, 1st; McCall 452, 2nd; Cole Valley 477, 3rd; and Homedale 502, 4th.

 Boys’ team results: Homedale 344, 1st; McCall 355, 2nd; Fruitland 358, 3rd; Cole Valley 367, 4th; Weiser 403, 5th; and Payette 444, 6th.
