The 2021 Weiser High School graduation ceremony has been moved from Memorial Park to the high school's gymnasium, according to Weiser School District Superintendent Wade Wilson.

Weiser High School is located at 690 W. Indianhead Rd. The ceremony is schedule to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 followed by a graduation parade.

The ceremony was originally scheduled as an outdoor event due to COVID restrictions.

"We were looking at doing this outdoors because there was a limit on gathering sizes while we were in Stage 3 of the governor’s Idaho Rebounds Plan and we really didn’t want to restrict attendance in the gym, but with the move to Stage 4, and the lifting of all of the gathering sizes, we have elected to go back up to Weiser High School where we are really prepared to have a nice ceremony," Wade said.

The Department of Health and Welfare announced earlier this week its decision to move into Stage 4 of Idaho's reopening plan based on statewide COVID incident rates, which were reported based on a seven-day average of 8.6 cases per 100,000 people and a 4.3 percent positive test rate as of May 11.

Although transmission rates are higher among groups, gatherings of any size can take place where physical distancing is still observed.

The Department said that face masks are not required, but highly recommended. A full list of Stage 4 guidelines can be found at www.rebound.idaho.gov.

"From a setup and management standpoint of all of the elements of the graduation, from a quality standpoint, in terms of having proper sound for our speakers, choir and band, we are set up for a higher quality of performance up there at the high school," Wade said.

The Parade is scheduled to take place immediately following commencement.
