CAMBRIDGE – The 30th Annual Hells Canyon Days kicks off this weekend, offering a wide variety of events, music, food and plenty of fun.
The two-day event begins Friday, June 6 and runs through Saturday, June 7.
Hells Canyon Days is spearheaded by the Cambridge Commercial Club and the Cambridge Rodeo Club plus dozens of sponsorships from businesses from across the region.
The event is a huge economic engine for the community of about 340 residents, said Cambridge Commercial Club member Brandi Lincoln.
“This event brings outside dollars into our community,” said Lincoln.
Hells Canyon Days typically attracts between 2,000 and 2,500 people, said Lincoln.
“We’d love to hit the 3,000 mark. It is a pretty epic environment, a small-town outdoor event and those are hard to find anymore,” said Lincoln.
The opening day of Hells Canyon Days features the Bulls -n- Broncs event set for 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the gate and youth under 7 enter for free. Food vendors and a beer garden will be available at the event. Also, Friday night, an all-you-can-eat taco feed is scheduled at the Cambridge, Midvale and Goodrich Senior Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
Saturday highlights for Hells Canyon Days include the annual Show and Shine car and semi-truck show. The show is slated from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“The truck and car show is the only one that combines classic cars and semis in the Pacific Northwest,” said Lincoln.
The Cambridge Rodeo Association is slated to host an open pit barbecue from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. Saturday morning a community breakfast will be held at the Exhibit Hall from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Saturday will also showcase a variety of vendors as part of a street fair, a quilt show and a Cornhole tournament set to begin at 2 p.m. For more information on the Cornhole tournament, interested individuals can contact Cassidy Rose at 208-739-7252.
The key Saturday night event will be the Hells Canyon Jam and street dance. This year, the Hells Canyon Jam will feature three bands. The 1871 Band and Tangled Roots will play while the headliner for the event is the Eli Young Band. Gates open for the music at 6 p.m. Tickets for the Hells Canyon Jam are available online at CambridgeIdaho.com
Dry camping is also available at the Washington County Fairgrounds, though reservations are recommended. To make a reservation, call 208-275-3773.
“It is a lot of fun. The bands are fantastic, and the environment is fantastic,” said Lincoln.
