Candidates file for Weiser mayor as deadline nears

 The deadline to file for city and county elected offices for the Nov. 5 general election is this Friday at 5 p.m.
 Some candidates wasted no time and filed for offices last week immediately after the filing period opened. 
 As of Tuesday morning, two candidates had filed the required paperwork to run for Weiser mayor. Those filing so far for mayor include Randy Hibberd and Dan Randleman. Both currently serve on the Weiser City Council.
 Incument city council member Cliff Barberis filed to retain his seat on the city council.
    Candidates for city offices in Weiser, Midvale and Cambridge can pick up the paperwork and file for elected offices at each town’s city hall. 
 Candidates running to serve on county taxing districts, such as cemetery, fire protection and school boards, can pick up nominating forms from clerks in any of those districts. 
 There are two options to file for any of the city or county offices up for election. Candidates can  file a declaration of candidacy and nominating petition that contains the required number of signatures of qualified electors verified prior to submission. 
 The second option is to simply file a declaration of candidacy and pay the $40 filing fee. 
 The declarations of candidacy must be returned to the respective city clerks in Weiser, Midvale or Cambridge or the clerks of the respective county taxing districtsFiling for elected office started on Monday, Aug. 26, and ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, a window of about two weeks. 
 Write-in candidates have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, to file for office.
 Residents of Weiser, Midvale and Cambridge will be voting in municipal elections this November. 
 In Weiser, the offices of mayor and three members of the city council will be decided in November. 
 To qualify to seek elected office in Weiser’s municipal election, the candidate must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and have his or her primary residence within the city they wish to hold office. 
 The candidate must have resided in the city for  at least 30 days prior to filing the paperwork.
 In Midvale, the mayor is up for election, along with two members of the city council.
 In Cambridge, there are two city council seats up for election.
 In the Weiser School District, three of the five school board trustees are up for election in November.  Candidates for school board must live in the zone that is on the ballot. 
 In the Cambridge School District, there are three trustee positions to be decided in November. Zone maps and candidate petitions for all school board seats are available from the school district clerk. 
 Two trustee seats on the Midvale School District school board will be on the ballot in November.
