Historic Preservation Commission to meet Nov. 6

 The joint Washington County/City of Weiser Historic Preservation Commission will meet on Monday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. in the Courthouse basement meeting room.  It will be followed at 5 p.m. by the Weiser Architectural Preservation Committee, Inc. Board meeting. The public is welcomed to attend both.

Ontario Christian Church ‘Family Reunion and Kids Day’

 Ontario Christian Church located 180 NW 1st Street in Ontario will celebrate “Family Reunion and Kids Day” on Sunday, Nov. 5. There will be a special emphasis on music, children, and families. The service will begin at 11 a.m. with a free barbecue and potluck following the service as well as games for the kids. Special guest vocalist Obadiah Neasham of Adrian will present a special concert that morning.

Grant will help rebuild street and repair bridge

This may not surprise you, but occasionally, Cathy and I just take off driving to see what we can see. Last Friday afternoon we headed out north of town and decided to turn off at Mann Creek Reservoir. We then went north past the Mann Creek Campground and headed toward the lookout. Cathy was questioning my choice of driving this way. She was not that impressed with looking at trees that had lost their leaves and were now just “gray.”

Dear Editor,
 I have the opportunity to often attend breakfasts at the Weiser Community Senior Center, and I know they have a full schedule of other enjoyable activities. 
 What a great place for our community to interact, form relationships, and show support for local people. 

Arrow-Heart’s annual Murder Mystery nets funds, slain wolfman

The 6th annual Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps Murder Mystery took place Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Vendome Events Center in Weiser.
 The fundraiser dinner and mystery also featured live and silent auctions in addition to a raffle. Arrow-Heart CEO Steve Fenske said the event was a complete success, bringing in crucial funds that will benefit the organization’s programs and activities as it moves forward into 2024. Funds have yet to be tallied.

Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair scheduled for Nov. 3-4

 The annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show is scheduled for Nov. 3-4 at the Vendome Events Center, located at 309 State St. in Weiser.
 Doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
 Sponsored for years by the Four County Art Guild and Friends of the Library, the event typically draws dozens of artists and craftsmen and women from around the Treasure Valley. It has been sold out to vendors since September, and the Vendome will be packed with a total of 48 signed up to participate this year.

Weiser High School presents ‘The Big Bad Musical’

The Weiser High School Musical Theater Class, directed by Mike Turner, will present “The Big Bad Musical!” Nov. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. at the WHS auditorium.
 The Big Bad Musical is a courtroom musical. The story follows a court case trial where the Big Bad Wolf, played by Nathan Price, is faced with a class action lawsuit by various classic fairy tale characters who want revenge. 

Tried and true, Shamrock Club’s fall dinner a favorite

 November is here, the weather has cooled off noticeably, and this year’s harvest season is about to be made complete with the 100-year-old Shamrock Club’s annual Harvest Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 If your favorite meal is the one that someone else cooks, don’t miss this one. Served up the first Sunday in November at the historic Jeffrey Schoolhouse, located at 1818 Weiser River Road, the homemade meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, rolls and pies is prepared entirely by Shamrock Club members.

Lady Wolverines place fourth at state championship

The Weiser High School cross country team finished their season strong with a great showing at the IHSAA State Cross Country Championships at the Portneuf Wellness Complex in Pocatello, Idaho. All of the runners ran well, completing the race with excellent times. The girls team took fourth place overall with three runners finishing in the top 20. 
 Coach Scott Hale shared that he could not be more proud of all of the runners for their performance throughout the season.

Weiser beats Marsh Valley 38-16, will travel to Kimberly

By the end of the game, the temperature had fallen to 35 degrees and the wind chill made it feel even colder.
 It wasn’t enough, however, to keep fans from populating the stands at Roy Dickerson Memorial Field and setting up as usual on the hillside on the west end of the stadium.
 Plenty of weather-hardened spectators, bundled in layers, witnessed the Wolverines (9-1, 4-1) beat the Eagles of Marsh Valley 38-16 on Friday in a play-in game in the first round of the 2023 3A State Football Playoffs.
