WSD to appoint zone IV trustee ahead of election

New student registration set for August 10 & 11

 The Weiser School District is poised to make a zone IV trustee appointment at its Aug. 14 monthly meeting.

 Regular business on the agenda will be addressed first, according to WSD Superintendent Kenneth Dewlen, followed by interviews of four candidates who applied to fill the position, which was left vacant after Dr. Mark Pritchard resigned on June 30.

 Candidates include Adam Kistler, Jonathon Lerew, Austen Thomason, and Jenny Rodriguez.

 The appointee will serve a relatively short term and must run in the Nov. 7, 2023 election for the opportunity to retain the seat and continue serving as a trustee.

 Terms for Zones I, IV, and V all expire at the end of the year. 

 Justin Erickson, Zone yet to officially announce whether they will run for re-election.

 Lazaro was appointed to fill the Zone V seat after Heather Thomas resigned just weeks after being elected to the position in November 2021.

 Packets for viable candidates were made available beginning Aug. 6 and can be picked up at the district office, located at 925 Pioneer Road. 

 The packet will include a Declaration of Candidacy form and a Nomination form that requires at least five signatures from registered voter patrons residing in the zone for which the candidate is running.

 The final deadline for turning in the candidacy packet is 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.

 To run for a school district trustee seat, candidates must be 18-years-old, be a registered voter, have lived in their zone for at least six months, and have the required five signatures from residents in their zone.

 Fall Registration

 In other district news, the WSD’s student registration for all new Weiser students, kindergarten through 12th grade, is scheduled for Aug. 10 and 11.

 On Aug. 10, registration will take place at the Weiser Middle School cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Aug. 11, it will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the same location. Please bring all required documents listed on the registration checklist.

 Registration will be completed online with computers, with support available during registration times. A link will be available for those who are unable to attend on Aug. 10 and 11.

 Registration checklist:

 • Certified copy of child’s birth certificate from the Bureau of Vital Statistics.

 •  Current immunization record.

 • Local address information, phone number, and emergency contact information.

 •  Middle school and high school students need a report card or transcript from the child’s prior school.
