Wrestlers beat Homedale, take second at Orofino

Weiser Wolverine wrestling traveled to Homedale for the opening SRV Conference dual between the competitors.
 Weiser picked up a solid win 65-9 for the night and Weiser saw some wrestlers in some different weight classes during the evening.
 Coach Drew Dickerson was positive about the night’s results saying, “Facing a conference rival and winning is always a good day, but it was also good to see some solid matches and some successful pins in the process.  All in all, it was a great day to be a Wolverine.”
 Weiser’s matches were mostly won by pin or forfeit and individual results were:
 98 pounds: double forfeit; 106 pounds: Mason Strong won by forfeit; 113 pounds: Rafael Delgadillo won by forfeit; 120 pounds: Conor Marsh lost 12-8; 126 pounds: Justin Williamson won by pin; 132 pounds: Sylais York won by pin; 138 pounds: Robert Sudderth won 15-4; 145 pounds: Matt Morris won by pin; 152 pounds: Brody von Brethorst won by pin; 160 pounds: Trae Gluch won by forfeit; 170 pounds: Malachi Hoobery won 12-4; 182 pounds: Paul Crawford lost by pin; 195 pounds: Riley Willet won by pin; 220 pounds:  Jesse Lockett won by forfeit; 285 pounds: Darrian Hoobery won in triple OT 2-1.
 Traveling to Orofino for the Maniac Invitational, the Weiser wrestlers faced off with 12 teams varying in size and experience and came away with second place, losing to Clearwater Valley by 1.5 points.
 Weiser had eight wrestlers in the finals and two received first-place finishes. Darrian Hoobery has been wrestling strong all year for the Wolverines and recorded a first-place finish at 220 pounds, along with Kooper von Brethorst, who took first place at 126 pounds. Von Brethorst also received an award for outstanding wrestler for the tournament.
 Tournaments are interesting, because sometimes the strategy that is involved in wrestling is forgotten.
 A total of 35 Weiser wrestlers competed in the meet, although not all could score for the team. Sometimes it isn’t about the win, sometimes it is just about getting matches in and seeing different styles of wrestling.
 “When you compete in tournaments throughout the state and in other states, you experience different styles of wrestling and you either adjust or get beat. We had to adjust differently in every tournament that we have attended thus far and these young men do a good job handling those adjustments. The wrestlers who identify and make the adjustments succeed,” Coach Dickerson said.
 Tournament results were:
 98 pounds: Jace Beuscher, second place; 106 pounds: Mason Strong, second place; 113 pounds: Conor Marsh, second place, Rafael Delgadillo, third place, Tristan Coria, sixth place;
120 pounds: Seth Harris, second place; 126 pounds: Kooper von Brethorst, first place, Justin Williamson, sixth place; 132 pounds:  Sylais York, third place, Braden Edwards, fourth place; 138 pounds: Matthew Morris, third place, Robert Sudderth, fourth place; 145 pounds: Erick Lopez, fifth place, Chris Scott, sixth place; 152 pounds: Brody von Brethorst, second place, Clayton Beesley, third place, Boone Ksiazek, fourth place, Dillon Houser, sixth place; 160 pounds:  Trae Gluch, fifth place; 182 pounds: Jesse Lockett, second place; 195 pounds: Rylee Willet, fourth place, Paul Crawford, fifth place; 220 pounds:  Darrian Hoobery, first place.
