Wolverines run season best times against McCall

The Weiser Wolverine cross country team hosted a dual meet against McCall-Donnelly on Wednesday, September 30.
Originally the meet was planned to be also against Parma, but at the last minute Parma received permission to go to a larger meet.
Weiser already hosted a meet at Rolling Hills Golf Course and rather than run that same, very difficult course again, Weiser did a new course route around Memorial Park and Weiser Middle School. Starting on the middle school track the runners ended behind the tennis courts. The course worked well for both the runners and the spectators who were able to see the runners three times throughout the race from one place near the start/finish line.
Coach Scott Hale shared that this was a good meet for the Wolverines. He was very impressed with their times. McCall has some of the fastest runners in the state, so they were good competition for the Weiser runners to push themselves.
In the men’s 5K race, McCall took the top two spots with Jack McManus finishing the race with a  season record time of 17:35, and Nathan Nelson taking second with a season record of 17:49.
These two very fast times pushed sophomore Ben Hanthorn to run his personal best time of 18:04.
McCall runners Nicky Gebhards and Daren Gasaway finished in the top five with times of 19:17 and 20:12 respectively. Colton Foster, Colyer Chandler, and Charlie Woods finished back to back with times of 20:12, 21:23 and 21:48 taking sixth, seventh, and eighth place.
In the girl’s race McCall runner Sophie McManus finished with a top time of 19:47. This fast pace pushed freshman Kendall Rynearson to finish with a personal record of 22:27 in second place.
Libbie Rynearson finished with a season record time of 24:10 in fifth place, Emily Ambramson finished with a season record time of 24:37 in sixth place, and Ellie Eames finished with a season record of 26:04 in eighth place. Nadine Chandler set a personal record with a time of 26:15 finishing in ninth place.
The results for the girls meet were very close with Weiser only losing to McCall by a 5 point spread.
“Overall, racing against a team like McCall, Weiser ran hard and didn’t give up. Our individual times show how well we are progressing,” Hale said.
