Wolverines earn post-season honors

Weiser High School’s spring sports of baseball and softball were talented enough this season to have many players get recognized for SRV all-conference.
In baseball, coached by Bowe von Brethorst, there were four players awarded on first team all-conference: senior Brody von Brethorst, sophomore Kooper von Brethorst, freshman Brett Spencer, and senior Logan Wood.
Four more players were recognized for second team: sophomore Tyler Pope, senior Jayden Mink, and sophomore Jarret Mink. Freshman Willy Shirts was the only player recognized for all-conference honorable mention.
All these players had an amazing season, stepping up with great skills and determination to carry the team to the state tournament. The first team players, B. von Brethorst, K. von Brethorst, Spencer, and Wood, really took on the roles of leaders.
With those four, the team scored in every inning at the state tournament. The four graduating seniors will greatly be missed, as they were all very strong competitors for the Wolverines.
Although young, the underclassmen greatly helped the team this season, playing with the skills of older and more experienced players. They will come back as seasoned veterans for their team next year.
Softball, coached by Brad Cordes, had many players recognized for all-conference as well. Freshman Whitney Cordes was the only player to be awarded first team.  She was a utility player for the team.
For second team, junior catcher Erika Tyree, junior outfielder Kali Branstetter, junior outfielder Madison Phillips, and senior first baseman Westi Walker, were all recognized. Freshman shortstop Ivy Morris and senior May Erke was awarded honorable mention.
These girls all played very well during the season to be chosen for all-conference. Cordes, as a utility player, playing every position besides right field, was runner-up for freshman of the year.
Branstetter played outstanding defense for the Wolverines, as well as having a homerun her first hit of the year. Tyree had a great season as the catcher. Walker played four years on varsity as the first baseman. Morris was brought up from JV to varsity halfway through the season to play shortstop for the team. These girls also all had a batting average above 275.
Both the baseball and softball teams for the Wolverines were very strong and talented, representing the town and school of Weiser impressively.
