Wolverine volleyball returns core of experienced seniors
Summer break has drawn to a close, and classes have resumed at Weiser High School.
Along with the school bells comes the commencement of fall sports. One such sport is volleyball, and the Lady Wolverine varsity volleyball squad has been gearing up for weeks for the start of the new season.
Varsity head coach Lindsay Grant returns for her second year at the helm for the Lady Wolverines. Grant will also have the aid of assistant coach Bianca von Brethorst this season. Michelle Estes will return as coach of the junior varsity team, while newcomer to the program, Anna Grandi, will lead the frosh/soph team this year.
The 2019 team consists of seven seniors, and Grant is looking forward to a season with such a strong group of experienced players. Grant is also excited about the strength of the younger players and she feels that the team “will be deeper in all positions from last year.”
Grant said that the strong leadership skills of her senior leadership will play a big factor this year.
Returning players for 2019 are seniors Grace Soulen, LynnZ Rasmussen, Macy Moore, Bella Strasser, Reagan Doty and Ciana Fuller, and sophomore, Macey Buescher. New to the varsity squad this season are Whitney Cordes, Jasi Yraguen, Jade Simonsen, Riley Warner and Ivy Morris.
The Wolverines kicked off their first competitive play of the season at a jamboree last week. Despite strong play, the Lady Wolverines came up short, dropping one set to Vallivue, 20-25, and one set to Tri-Valley, 23-25.
Regular play will begin on Thursday, Aug. 29, in a non-league pairing with the Lady Wolverines hosting the visiting Baker City Bulldogs.
